Also note that if you have wholly insufficient radiators for your lasers, they still take some time to overheat. Not played with it, but this may be worth thinking about for a giant alpha-strike with no endurance. Downside is, anything that doesn't die to your alpha strike, you're now stuck paying for lasers you're only going to get to use if you're loosing badly.

Hm. The way the AI handles multiple maneuvering thrusters leaves much to be desired. Short of the uncontrollable spin imparted by inept handling, I actually did manage to set up a one-ten rendezvous. (Okay, more like 2 meter per second relative velocity, but still something like ten meter distance manageable with EVA.) Trying to adjust my attitude did not work, however - the sneaky little trick I did for getting my encounter right on top of them did help (as it let me cross an hours worth of distance in fastforward, so approach at low relative velocity). I also choose a poor armor material for visibility, obviously.

I did intentionally not specify a time limit, so setting up a slow perfect intercept with a ship with reverse thrusters and waiting...
Again, disable weapons. You want to start close, and slow. Because every m/s of relative velocity added into the equation makes things harder.
Late Edit:
A follow on challenge would be to design a fleet that can 1) disable an enemy craft (kill weapons/power and maneuverability), 2) retain enough deltav to rendezvous with the derelict at low relative velocities and 3) either include from the getgo the craft which conducted the zero zero rv or a launcher with at least one such vehicle.

So I've heard people wanting boarding pods, shuttles, maybe even EVA crewmen to try and take on enemy ships? Well, here's a challenge for you: Start a sandbox mission with an (unarmed) enemy station (either acting as a station, or standing in for a ship with disabled weapons and thrusters), take on your own side any ship of your own choosing. Disable weapons. Set up an intercept and get as close as possible with as low a relative velocity as possible. The target is "Zero - Zero". Zero relative velocity, zero distance to target. Post the results as a screenshot. You may use any designs, any budget. In case of a tie, the best kiloton per credit ratio, closest to Zero-Zero wins. Oh, and ramming is strictly forbidden. (Inspiration was when setting this up.I do heartily recommend using the appropriate music.) (Mission concept: Intelligence has identified a new type of USTA Sensor station. We've commandeered a nearby research craft and filed a flightplan that'll take us in for a closer look, by the time the USTA Patrols respond, the intel will be on the way back to Mars.)

My bad, that would explain why I could not find it! I do seem to remember someone else working on a design with lasers of all spectrums of the rainbow for testing purposes, but I'm not sure I ever saw what came of it (except the conclusion that it all boils down to either Green or Purple).

Also this gun is *^%&*#^%& expensive. Is it broken ? It's got something like 24 to 25 Gc of Osmium reaction wheels. Maybe upwards to 900 kilotons of Osmium reaction wheels.

Okay. So the RFP is doing a recruitment drive to replace losses bulk up numbers, and since the population has proven to be rather reticent in regards to willingness to step forward, the marketing firm hired is posed with a quandary. Simply put, they've a limited budget, most of which they've pocketed already, and they need a lot of pictures that'll awe the masses so the RFP recruiters can approach them while they're gawking. So they've set up a competition! All pictures taken will belong to the firm for use by the RFP, and the best picture (as judged by the unbiased and completely professional panel of judges) will be awarded a lump sum of 100 Mc. There is no price for also rans, other than maybe prestige. (And the real objective is to get an influx of "pretty" screenshots to try and balance with all the technical ones of modules and ships, testing and maneuvers. The price is naught but mad props.) The basic rules are: Unlimited budget (but as the "price" is supposed to be 100 Mc and the honor, if you want a chance to make a profit, try to keep the total cost of all ships (yours and enemy) in the sandbox mode to less than a total of 100 Mc. The RFP may (or may not) reimburse you for showing off stock designs. Screenshots should be taken either while zoomed in on a fleet, or in combat. Ships used do not have to be practical or at all sensible - anything goes - but for the sake of setting up good photo opportunities in a timely manner, a fair amount of deltaV - and maybe also responsive maneuvering thrusters - may be recommended. The only need for an enemy craft would be to give you something to shoot at to show of pretty weapons fire, explosions or stuff like that, or to generate aesthetically pleasing battle scarring on your craft. Bonus points for showing off the RFP coat of arms. Minus points for showing the RFP coat of arms with significant battle damage visible on it (around it is fine, great even, and incidental battle damage on it is a romantic touch). Don't forget that the subject is only one part of the picture composition - the setting/background/backdrop is also important - it's probably best not to try to take pictures in low orbit of a gas giants nightside... Unless maybe you're shooting for a moonrise/sunrise shot. If there's a story behind the set up for the picture, do share it. Making of material is also accepted. Nuclear flash photography is strictly restricted.

Thanks dragonkid11! I have a request for people that played allot with laser. Anyone have a ship with multiple different laser mounted? I don't remember who did it but I saw a ship named "rainbow warrior" at some point. I would like to refine my stuff against the best laser around. After that, I will do a guide to defeat my own strategy. In the maintime, feel free to do to fine weakness to exploit in what I put forward. My "A Rainbow Warrior" design was just a demonstration of applied use of various colors of tracers. No lasers. Must've been someone else?

Basically, rock beat laser with sufficient velocity. Brah, we frequent some of the same fora. I know you already knew that sufficient velocity is whatever velocity is required for X to beat Y. And with sufficient velocity any X can beat ANY Y. (F.ex. X = "a can of ravioli" and Y = "an Imperial Star Destroyer" and sufficient velocity is within a few fractions of a percent of C.)
