Has anyone tried using two-part penetrators/payloads for their guns? Considering the velocities and how most stock ships bite the dust after one or two hits from a heavy projectile, I don't know if it's strictly necessary, but segmented penetrators are a contemporary thing for defeating spaced/bulging composite armors.
Might find some kind of effectiveness against packed whipple shields.

Crossposting since this thread gets waaaay more traction, but does anyone know why the cooling loop on a reactor can be below the melting point of any of the core's components, but the game still throws a red "EVERYTHANG GONNA MELT" warning?
Is the coolant loop diagram not reading out the temperature of the core itself? Is the coolant not carrying enough heat away from the core?

I was building a reactor earlier today and seem to be getting warnings where I previously was not. The display shows the cooling loop running below the melting point of core materials, but I am receiving a "fuel rods will melt" and "control rods will melt" warning. See the image attached

Part of me thought that the squadron patch would look better with the gunship nose-up, but after doing it, I have to say I don't think so. The Sanskrit and the base of the boat make the patch a little bottom heavy/visually busy. Don't know if the angled tip of the patch makes up for it.

How is this not practical? You can shoot PD drones out in front of the fleet. It's like a seaplane catapult, and I've seen the idea of magnetic space fighter catapults before. If you somehow aim it right you even could give longer-ranged missiles and drones quite a lot of 'free' delta-V. I've been meaning to make one myself, and I assumed it would be a pretty mainstream idea. No doubt, however, it works like a weapon instead of a launcher, requiring a nearby enemy... qswitched can we get an tickbox sometime to flag a weapon as a launcher (and even vice versa)? You could have a separate launcher and gun, then use a common ammo container. It's a mass penalty, but you get some drone flexibility.

A lot of users have touched on the level of intelligence, skill and psychopathy expected in a warship crew, so I'd expect any high-level commander to be close, but not necessarily onboard a vessel involved in combat. Unless we include endgame/last-stand situations where a handful of defensive warships remain.
Nobody is going to allow an initiative-lacking idiot to fly a megacredit ship full of nukes anywhere, let alone into a combat zone.

Speaking of ammo stocks, wouldn't it be nice to have an attachable loader module to go with ammo bays? It would make that fleet/drone play even better.
Since we're talking operational/strategic scales, this could be a legitimate source of cost savings for an op. Pack just enough ammunition and fuel for a one-kill flyby, rendezvous with the mothership and repeat. There's almost certainly some armor-weight savings, and what ship wouldn't want the extra armor of a 100k round drum of tungsten slugs?

I thought I updated it, but I believe it's got something to do with mass ratios being off.
Fixing that has resolved 99% of the issue.
Boiloff is not modelled, yes?

Hey everyone,
I seem to be consistently losing drones and missiles to an out-of-gas alert the moment I start an engagement or right after completing a flyby, despite having several kps of delta-v remaining in the tanks and minimal damage to the craft.
Is there something I might be missing? The only thing I can think of is engines getting lased out after the flyby, but that doesn't explain the times I start an engagement with 0 delta-v to spare.
EDIT: Apparently, I cannot do basic division. Most of my problems come from failing to do proper mass ratios.
