About those retrograde projectiles, I'm thinking more of the hyperbolic situation or intentional bombardment to trigger Kessler syndrome.
UXO-esque engagements would probably require some kind of supraplanetary organization like the UN to maybe drop light sanctions or pressure a polity into paying for damages, and at least with COADE, I don't think that's going to happen.

Projectiles with muzzle velocity less than planetary escape velocity may be banned, to avoid potential collateral damage and Kessler issues. That includes many regular chemical guns, but rail/coil guns are mostly fine. And then I shoot my slightly above planetary escape velocity gun retrograde ... ... or my faster projectiles retrograde while being on a hyperbolic trajectory ... A little bit of SMAC might happen; everyone will gang up on you and unleash their gigaton nukes/asteroid mass drivers etc. on your habitats.

Sword and spears don't count as dakka though, so it's natural it didn't work. Dreadnoughts had less dakka than pre-dreadnoughts though. Is there an ork term for weight of fire as opposed to rapidity of fire?

Elements.txt does not go in the Materials folder. Whoops.

Make sure you get everything required and put them at the right place. Everything is in its proper text file in the mods/data folder. As far as I understand, chemicalreactions.txt goes outside the materials folder. Should I be editing the base game files and not adding modded text files?

The game keeps throwing a 'Error Validating Materials' error, citing 'null reactants', 'null elements' and 'null elements' error for each of the modded items. Except for Metallic Hydrogen.
Not really sure what's going on here.

I can't think of a good way to score that, though. If you want to make a modified version with an extra 50 ton crew module instead, I'd be happy to include it. Score it without the cargo module. I assume thrust pressure >100kpa gives us a somewhat accurate atmospheric dV, but if it doesn't, the fact that this thing is on the higher end of the Earth-orbit dV budget is probably a good thing. Also, a 50t crew module would probably crater the outer fuselage mass budget. Leave the borderline-lethal min-maxing for the military!

So is there a minimum recommended armor thickness and a restriction against drop tanks? I managed to cook up a drop tank Methane NTR craft that carries 103 passengers/37 crew. It loses goes from 9.99 to 9.50 km/s vacuum Delta V with an added 50t cargo bay. userdesign text is here:

I've inserted them directly into the data files, as it doesn't seem to remember the materials if I put them in the mods folder, and all my modules reset.

Regarding that 3" gun, you might be able set the flak payload to detonate on a timer rather than fuze it.

I presume the wattage of the loader influences volume? Would it be possible to replace aluminum with a lighter, stronger material?

That's kind of odd though, if aluminum was better why would NASA use Osmium when it's sitting around $100 per gram? It was a pretty brief look, and a lot of eyeballing graphs, not looking at tables. I could very certainly be wrong.

Brief look on Wikipedia, comparing the reflectivity of Al/Au and the claim of Osmium having "twice the reflectivity of gold" suggests that it won't be so great compared to aluminum.
