That's a quite good idea to have a missile drone carrier that also serve as a missile. I will try that! Thanks! Here's the basics of it as it stands now, it's not perfect (are they ever?) and I'm sure there are all sorts of optimizations I could do, but it does the job just fine against anything a campaign scenario throws at me: ...and here's an in-battle screenshot that gives an idea of it in action: As you can see there, the combined lasers of 2 Gunships and a Cutter is enough to burn holes through the gigantic nosecone (and possibly in another spot or two), but the big slab of aerogel usually protects the fuel tanks (or enough of the 8 tanks) more than long enough. Regardless, it hitting the target isn't the important part, anyway; it lasts long enough to kick out all 50 nukes, and since the point of them is to spread out as far as possible, even if the missile starts flipping or jerking around it doesn't really matter. The ejection speed, engagement distance, and rate of fire of the launchers took a lot of tweaking, but as it's currently designed, as long as the delivery vehicle is going at least 1km/sec by the time it starts launching the bomblets, they have enough time to spread out while not being so far away that the enemy has time to move its fire from the delivery vehicle over to the bomblets before they are already starting to impact. They seldom *destroy* any enemy ships, but whatever ship was actually targeted by the delivery vehicle (or was launching the flare that it decided to follow) gets turned into a molten-metal Popsicle, while the remaining ships have all sorts of modules singed off of them. The best thing about it is that, unlike a missile wave, you don't have to worry about the whole "let's all target a single enemy ship/flare" OR one of the bomblets detonating first also taking out all of your other missiles before they can explode. Plus it's really fun to watch this thing in action. That the most important thing, right?

So, after testing out a few of the thermal armor in this thread.
I decided to switch back to silica gel in weight to see if it's more effective.
Turns out, silica gel is still stupid effective but require more thickness to do it.
Except that silica gel is actually MORE expensive than all the thermal armor tested.
Of course, against low power laser, it's more cost-effective to use multi layer thermal armor.
Against gigawatt laser though, you will need silica gel to make missiles survive longer.
