I personally use 2 layers of 1.7 meters each. Don't ask why 1.7 meters. I don't remember , maybe it was a result of tests or maybe it was just the first number I came up with back then...

Ok I really don't know how to call this ship. Laser Frigate Redesign ? Or Gunship Redesign 2.5 ? It started as the same idea - take a gunship , remove most of the ballistic weapons , leave the lasers , remove some of the armor. I never reached the last point , since this thing absolutely trashed my previous gunship. As you can see I removed all weapons other than the lasers and the auto railguns, which I'm starting to really like. After a few tests removed the 400kw lasers. Added the new 4mm railguns. Made the ship a little shorter. 4 tests were made , 3 against a fleet of 2 laser frigates and a missile schooner and one against my previous gunship. It won all of those with the one against the gunship was the most brutal one , there were only a few hits and disabled turrets on the frigate: On the last shot you can see that at the end the gunship was completely "polished" out of everything except for a few small radiators, and after the driveby shooting everything ended. The fights against the laser frigates and the schooner were also conclusive, ending in a few disabled turrets for the new ship and that was it. As you can see the volume of fire is absolutely devastating, ironically she wins by being a better ... gunship. The new 4mm railguns are proving to be quite effective in both the sniper and the CIWS role and the combination with the auto railguns you have both spread and accuracy at the same time. I think I'll try to make a version of them with spread for anti-radiator work and both will be... probably quite effective. Edit: Can't attach files for some kind of reason... this is the ship :

If you want your vessels as stock replacements, then it might be a good idea to diversify the layout a bit. You obviously have your own 'style' and school of thought about ship layout and proportions, but some variety might be good. Perhaps check out what kind of ship layout other people use?

Nice. I hope to test against these ships soon. The "new" 4mm railgun you mentioned, was that one of your own designs? Also, what exactly qualifies the "autofire" railgun? I believe other stock weapons have superior rate of fire.

Durandal the 4mm railgun is simply a turreted, rapid firing version of the stock 4mm. And for the autofire - I'll have to take a closer look why its so effective , for the moment I think it has the right spread - enough to strip radiators and just about enough speed to catch up at the distances for those fights. In all accounts its the most effective stock gun that I have found - with the notable exeption of the 1mm capacitor coilgun - this one is an absolute beast , however the large turrets are it's achilles heel - its just disabled too quickly. I'll prrobably have to make a better protected version of it at a later stage.
