Heyo, I just recently re-installed the game after one of the oldest updates caused fatal crashes that made it impossible for me to play. I'm thrilled to be back """"""designing""""" and pretending to know what I'm doing. So, I boot up the game and find this in my user designs: Leaving aside the fact that it's probably not the best cannon ever (as I said, I really don't know what I'm doing), I like the idea of a fuckhuge cannon tearing everything apart. Does anyone have any tips for a flak shell that large? The shell it fires now basically is made of several over-sized (200kg) stock Nitrocellulose flak bombs. 3-5 shells are required to kill any capital ship and that tells me that the shell is a failure as it is now as I, at the time, probably envisioned it to break capitals in half in a single shot. (It's a 1200mm cannon, for god's sake!) Or am I better off in investing in kinetic penetrators? I think you would be better off investing in railguns :-) Fyi, look at the breech pressure graph, at the end there the pressure has basically flatlined. That means there is barely still any propellant exploding, so you could probably lose the top 1/3rd of that barrel, and see the velocity barely drop while you save a ton in mass. So I'd advise trimming that barrel down quite a bit. Welcome to the forum :-)

Thanks for the welcome.
I just found out that it was basically a stock design, and now I feel extremely silly. Anyway, I tweaked it once again following your suggestion, and cut down its length by half while preserving most of the exit speed. Thanks for the suggestion, most appreciated.

I got a bit bored of the conventional, conventional cannons, so I decided to make this. Which I then turned into this. It's supprisingly useless.

It's supprisingly useless AWESOME. That's no ship, its an orbital bombardment platform.

Switch to TNT with higher grain size to gain muzzle speed and lower cost I actually changed it over to Nitrocellulose and managed to shave off 4 meters from the barrel, and significantly reduced the grain size and still got the same speed. I forgot to get a screenshot of the new design though, and can't since I'm going to work...

That's no ship, its an orbital bombardment platform. Looks more to me like an enormous pancake delivery platform. Apparently you are only allowed to shoot 5 ton projectiles. I was hoping for more. Either way, it makes an effective "boarding torpedo" gun, since it can fit most crew compartments into the barrel. The hard part is not killing anyone with the acceleration.

Also I like where your head's at with that boarding torpedo concept.

Sorry, I have a tendency to miss label armeratures/sabot/projectiles with payloads. I was originally hoping to fire a Kiloton solid shot. I'm not sure about payloads yet, since I'm working late.

You just created an highly imaginative Execution device! Think of the effect it will have on your local polity's crime rates! Good job, Admiral!

They dont seem to do alot after I extensively tested em. And I mean they do nothing.

My old EFP design seemed to outright destroy the rad shield when the nuke detonate.
So I switched the rad shield to flak payload with minimum explosive weight for it to work.
It's not really the best missile payload, but it pierces through vessel like shotgun blast.
