Well no, the coolant is going into the laser at 50K at some pressure created by the turbopump. Then comes out heated by the laser to 1235, goes to the radiator and becomes 50K again to repeat the cycle. That's how I see it. Yeah you are right , it just honestly didn't occur to me to drop it that low , didn't know that it was possible at all. It seems odd that it can cool to such a low temperature, then again I'd imagine the laser radiators are huge. So its definitely not impossible.

yes the temp is how much you cool the coolant too in the radiators, you can get away with smaller radiators if you up the inlet temp

Turns out Graphene is pretty ok in railgun construction. Try it as for radiators. Or try 3D-Graphene for radiators (at 2400 K, dozens of GW of waste heat require only a few hundred kg of radiators).

So, with the new capacitor, it's really difficult to make a coilgun design with the new conservation of energy system. But for railgun, they now reign king for simplicity. This is my capital railgun design, there are many like it but this one is mine and it's pretty good. Also, the new radiators can certainly make some very interesting new design... BUG WINGS, SPACE FIGHTER, HEAT SWORD, YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

I thought about delta radiators for my ships, but then I realized that that takes up more space on the hull

I, for one, welcome our new railgun overlords Because of the lack of composite barrel armor, lasers pop railguns just as fast as they used to. Except there's no way to create ludicrously high velocity 150km/s impactors anymore ;_;.

I've been meaning to do this for a while, constantly putting it off even with a lack of a good reason. I was going to postpone more until either my new monitor comes in or I get days off on spring break. However online I'm not a very quiet person and trying to save my 500th post for a while can be tiresome when there's so many good things to talk about. Not only that but with the new patch coming Soon tm I'd like to get these ships out there so I can move on to better designs before the patch breaks all the modules in the fleet I have to implement all the cool and wonderful things qswitched has in store for us. Without any more delay, The Four Children of the CataclysmIf you've yet to come across my brief description of the fleet, it's a sort of more a symbolic representation of the four ship classes already in the game. Of the four ships, each represents a certain weapon type: Kinetic, Laser, Drone and missile. With names representing the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, who which have unique and iconic horses and weapons that they ride into whatever cool apocalyptic things they did. Instead here I tied in the idea of the game how the apocalypse did in fact happen known as the Cataclysm, and Children instead of Horsemen. The design of the ships themselves were to be oversized and upgraded stock capital ships, were the design theory (yet again oversized) was better and the module design was improved. The ships we're not meant to be completely minmaxed nor very practical but these are old designs and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't at least slightly proud of them.
The ships
Project War
Although none of the ships ever really came first, Project War will be the first today. War is the main warrior of the Four Horsemen, so the name fits with the design. Being an upgunned Gunship with too many guns, it's the close range brawler of the fleet. With numerous guns, War is able to break off from its Siblings to engage and end other ships rightly. Though he lacks a pommel to do such an act, the 240mm railguns shoot what effectively is a magnetic pommel. As well as 95MW Lasers to defend itself, it is quite the battleship. Hard to take down, and hard to defend against, it is a formidable foe of any ship.
Project Thanatos
People may like to point at Thanatos and laugh at what they would be lead to believe is an oversized glowing carrot. Thanatos does not find it so funny. Thanatos, the Horsemen of Death, destroys all that he touches. The ship can do such the same. It's siblings may only double the firepower of their smaller counterparts, but Thanatos was granted far more lasers than the Laser Frigate.
"Well, the ship really came into being first as a design for a boat with too many lasers, and the project was almost shut down," Stan Maki, a totally not random factory worker in an interview. "But when the lead designers for the Four Children caught wind of it, they funded it and added even more." "We wanted to answer the question: Can a warship really have too many lasers? Honestly, even with this massive red hot stick in front of me I believe the answer is no." said an unnamed Lead Designer.
Others would go on to tell the story that War got its four lasers from the Thanatos Project when the assembly team realised they couldn't practically fit any more radiators onto the ship. Thanatos now sits gloriously illuminating its Siblings as it protects them from enemy drones and missiles. Project PestilenceThe White Horse has many depictions, but when it is depicted as a disease, it's known as Pestilence. Armed with a bow, it uses arrows to spread disease and weaken or kill those that are affected. However, in our time, bows and arrows would be quite primitive. Instead Pestilence is armed with an array of missiles that can swarm and destroy its opponents. Though not as nuclear as the silo ship, the flak missiles are nothing to scoff at. They can easily tear through and saturate whipple shield based designs, as well as critically damaging a ship's ability to dissipate heat. Unfortunately enemy drones and missiles can dodge such flak clouds, so the Pestilence does have 5Mt nuclear missiles at its disposal. Whether or not it's captain allows for the use of Nuclear Weapons on a populated vessel or asteroid is up to them. Project FamineTo be honest Famine isn't usually depicted with a weapon, usually a weight scale. With that scale Famine spikes the prices of food to starve people. It doesn't sound like a drone carrier so Famine really drew the short straw for the naming scheme, but I have to stay with the whole theme of 4 apocalyptic ships each with unique weapons. Or else I would lose internet cool points or something.
If you've yet to guess what Famine is, it's a really fat drone ship. There's nothing particularly special with it's design, it's a Fleet Carrier with more drones. I mean the drones are super cool and more advanced than their stock counterparts, but they're just a bunch of tubes stuffed in a larger glowing tube. I guess that's all this game ever is. Glowing Tubes...
/existential crisis
It does have railguns and lasers to protect itself.
Awesome Amazing Interesting Design TheoryOverall design or something boring like that
The design is pretty typical of normal capital ships. Using multiple stages of bundles of fuel tanks to get a carrot shape and filling the gaps in between with crew modules, drones, missiles, candy, warehouse for cataclysmic things. Using Methane as fuel the ships get a decent delta-v but as evident as the ship's volume, the fuel is outdated by other better denser faster stronger hydrocarbon fuels, like RP-1 and Decane.
Armor The armor is a bunch of boring layers of monolithic ceramics, metals, and fabrics. Nothing to see here... Really, the armor is a double bumper whipple shield design that lacks adequate protection against lasers or nuclear weapons. However you could slather some Silica Aerogel in the gaps of the shields and it would work better. Basic idea:
5mm Titanium Carbide for that slick gold look. 8cm Gap of vacuum 1cm layer of dank High Yield Strength Aluminum Alloy 30cm Gap of more boring vacuum Some amount of Boron for pressure wall. Between 6cm and 16cm depending on ship role. Some vacuum gap that I forgot. Couple cm of Kevlar/Para-Aramid Fiber for stopping the armor from destroying its own ship.
I think it could stop sub-gram sandblasters but I still don't have one to test with. Probably would get saturated quick as I would imagine.
ArmamentTake the stock ships and double the previous weapons with more advanced weapons. Pretty simple.I hope there isn't a word or letter limit because I think I'll reach it, hot damn this is long. My hands hurt. Send help please.
Probably More Interesting Than Theory Weapons
KineticsA few of these may break some physics. Fight me. Over Pluto. LasersMissilesDronesI think thas about it, but I probably forgot something. Oh well.Thas has been David367th , bye.Edit: I can't into spoilerEdit 2: still trying to decipher the mess of BBcode, and I can confirm I cannot into spoiler.Edit 3: about 20 actual edits later I'm convinced the board is putting its own [/spoiler]s wherever the fuck it wants. Edit 4: why there isn't an actual support for spoilers in the preview is beyond me Edit 5: Spoilers fixed, but now theres random spaces everywhere what is BBcode and why hasn't anyone sent it to hell yet. Edit 6: Spoilers not fixed fuck you Famine. Edit 7: I'm pretty sure I'm done. Good god this was a mess.[/quote] A 1 ton flak explosive ? You could put in a 9-ish-MT nuke in that kind off mass budget.

I find nuclear explosives to be less effective at doing damage to a ship. It was originally a 1 ton nuclear charge, but I swapped it out for an equal mass explosive.
It's been know to tear ships in half if it hits.

Killing OP coilguns has only created a brand new monster. No. Lasers and missiles were always OP, and now guns are even weaker because of the lack of composite barrels. Coils and rails were always support weapons, at best.
