Wow! Someone who actually make something out of stock parts! I thought they were all forgotten these days, in between OP player stuffs

Oh yeah, here's another one that's actually very useful. A scaled down version of the Solar Lance serving as a cheaper and lighter alternative to the Laser Frigate for when all you want is the mighty Titanium:Sapphire. Also includes a 15cm citadel around the crew compartment so flaks that get through hopefully won't tear a fatal hole in it.* *Radiator insurance excluded from this offer.CraftBlueprint [Core] Lunar Lance Modules 100 MW Titanium:Sapphire Violet Laser 1 272.49 null 0 60.4 MW Thermoelectric Fission Reactor 2 -0.5 null 0 20x10 Silicon Carbide Radiator 3 74.232 100 MW Titanium:Sapphire Violet Laser 0.53 1.000 kt Hydrogen Deuteride Tank 1 0.36851 null 0 9.10 km/s Hydrogen Deuteride Gimballed Nuclear Thermal Rocket 4 0 null 0 40 Crew Module 1 148.64 null 0 1.000 kt Hydrogen Deuteride Tank 1 2.3685 null 0 10x3 Silicon Nitride Radiator 2 134.05 40 Crew Module 0 20.0 m Diameter 6.00 cm Radiation Shield 1 -0.065745 null 0 100x20 Silicon Carbide Radiator 2 12.37 60.4 MW Thermoelectric Fission Reactor 0 14.0 m Diameter 6.00 cm Radiation Shield 1 0.93426 null 0 Armor ArmorLayers Reinforced Carbon-Carbon 0.15 0 0.844 1 1 Boron 0.02 1 0 1 1 Liquid Crystal Polymer Fiber 0.005 0 0 1 1

Couldn't you make stock-component only ships instantly better by using our advanced armor schemes? Fiber/Gel/Carbon for pure laser resist and Diamon/Carbon/Spall Liner for ballstic resist?

Sure, for thermal protection at least. I just wanted to give my ships stock-balanced armour too. Kinetics may present a more interesting problem, since their nature is different in stock. Instead of maximising velocity with 1g rounds they have up to... well, 1t from the 1200mm, but more realistically 1kg from the 286mm and 10kg from the 120mm. It is my understanding that slower, heavier rounds are more difficult to defend against, or would at least require a different type of design we haven't seriously explored yet.

Probably need to go more into steep armor angling to deflect heavier projectiles (probably with a high yield str material like osmium), instead of absorbing them in a stuffed whipple shield. Unfortunately the game doesn't let us really build space wedges only space cones so you are kind of limited in surface area of weapons on the highly angled surface. Personally I would love to be able to make space armor wedges with all the critical components hidden in the back and the weapons attached along the top and bottom facing forward so that if they are targeted nothing critical behind them gets hit by the overkill dmg. Since stealth is pretty much a non-issue you will always be able to be aligned properly in space and it seems (to me at least) to be a fairly likely and practical design philosophy to make a well armored wedge.

Hmmm.
I think we should have a stock ship challenge thread.
Where we made ship out of stock part only.
And for armor, only whatever stock ship used is allowed.

In the unrelated note, I've got an idea to start something a mixture of a CoaDE fanfic story and a challenge that revolves around designing everything.

So I'm erm...testing out new improved NEFP missile type.
Is it possible to have so much nuke power that even osmium fragmentations get vapourised?
Because that's what happened with my largest NEFP missile.

I don't have a name for it yet, and I'm still min-maxing certain modules, but overall I'm quite happy with the result. This ship started out as a modification of the stock corvette and will feature in an upcoming custom campaign I've been working on. It's main armament is thirteen 37.4 km/s Amorphous Carbon coilguns and two (one on each side) 57.4 km/s coilguns. It also has ten 9.4 km/s point defense railguns. Effective range for the coilguns is well over 1000 km though for now engagement range is limited to around ~250-300 kilometres for stock ships. The ship uses hydrogen deuteride (64 tanks total, including the drop tanks). Long range propulsion is provided by a 83.7 km/s 750 MW MPD thruster giving it up 97 km/s deltaV. The NTRs give it 10.5 km/s delta V and a burn time of 1 minute and 39 seconds (almost 6 Gs of acceleration). It also has three directional resistojets. It doesn't have proper armour as I didn't want to add more layers on top of the decorative layers. But if it did it would use a silver/tin/osmium/fibre/aerogel composite. Right now it's only protection is redundancy: 5 reactors, 6 main thrusters, 9 crew modules, 14 main radiators and the 60 internal fuel tanks. The guns are armoured with over 2 centimeters of basalt fibre.

That's the most beautiful design I have seen so far.

"oh. i'm sure i have 100% freedom." Anyways, I am sure never to get on this thing if it is to thrust at full 60 m/s 2 of acceleration with its MPD mode!

If Captain Nemo built a spaceship instead of a submarine - this would be it. Really beautiful vessel. could you post a close-up of the front please. also, what are those things sticking from the front? radiators? And some tips on the paint job please.
