Hmmm, neat.
String Witch, that's actually how I design my ship.
I have a well armor basis, and then just put things in everytime I build new weapons and stuff.
For categorization, I have made up a naming system already.
The naming system goes like this.
Type, Weapon, Number.
Like for example, Broken Quiver Mark 4.
Broken stands for that it's a very standard cylinder ship type.
Quiver means that it's a carrier that carry conventional gun based drones.
And obviously, mark 4 means that it's the 4th version of the design.
For Type, I have the following readied.
Broken-Standard Cylinder type
Alien-Saucer shaped type
Calamity-Saucer Drone type
Dwarf-Cylinder Drone type
Royal-Golden plated cylinder type, excessively expensive but it's covered in gold with really expensive armor layer to protect it. Most definitely used exclusively for parade.
Eclipse-Broadside type
For Weapon, I have:-
Quiver-Conventional gun drone carrier
Sheath-Eletromagnetic gun drone carrier
Pouch-Missile drone carrier
Holster-Laser drone carrier
Sabre-Light weight gunboat
Katana-Fast light weight gunboat
Sword-Ultralight weight gunboat scout
Lantern-Laser ship
Bow-Small missile carrier
Crossbow-Large missile carrier
Ballista-Megaton missile carrier
Shortbow-Micro missile Carrier
And finally, Carriage-Multi Purpose warship that tends to be a lot heavier than the rest.
Which is also why I asked this question because a single Broken Carriage can do the job of 7 ships while weighing and costing a lot less, which since my ship already cost dirt cheap, it means quite a bit. On the other hand, it's also a lot more vulnerable because it's a single ship.
I also have a few theoretical ship class like.
Hammer-Heavy weight gunboat with high calibre guns.
Spear-Light weight gunboat with only a few frontal mounted superguns.
Shield-Heavily armored gunboat for upclose and personal action.
Ragnarok-Stupidly humongous multi-purpose warship that cost a goddamn planet.
And many more, all of which I put on hold because of me favoring new missiles and drones system.
