To help decide on a cost limit to impose for the tournament, it would be helpful to know roughly how many entries we would have for different levels of cost. What would be the very lowest cost limit where you would decide to submit an entry?
We want to balance the need to keep the cost limit low versus having a large and inclusive pool of submissions. A low cost limit is important because it helps limit the number of projectiles, drones, and missiles in play which would cause excessive lag.

2 MC.
It is challenging and it still allow you to build some cool and powerful (compare to stock at least) stuff even if you only use gun as weapon.

Honestly, I'd submit something even if the cost limit was 1 Mc. And it would still be using 1 Mm lasers.

You're going to need at least 26 crew for an armed craft, assuming chemical rocket and single gun. The crew compartments alone will cost at least 600 kc at the cheapest. I won't object to 2 Mc, but I'd prefer 5 Mc myself.

Sure you won't have a jack-of-all-trades ship, but those aren't useful in a (realistic) tournament setting anyway. Because the counters need to be "perfect". I managed to make a ship for 2 Mc but cost was much more a limit than mass, so I go for 5 Mc for more flexibility. It carries 200 flak missiles.

Too complicated IMO, people may not have time to build and optimize multiple ships. And it doesn't make much sense for combat ships to limit themselves to certain categories of weapons. What's your reasoning for not going for all weapon types?

I think 5 Mc is near the minimum price for a manned ship. Much lower than that and you'll be left with glass cannons and anemic monitors. 2 Mc makes this an interesting engineering challenge. Sure you won't have a jack-of-all-trades ship, but those aren't useful in a (realistic) tournament setting anyway. Because the counters need to be "perfect". Now considering that some people have a problem designing ships under 5 Mc, I suggest uploading some modules and designs to get things going. None of your ships have any armor to speak of, that's what I'm getting at. With 2 Mc you can have weapons or armor, not both. This is going to massively shift the balance of power to first strike weapons such as lasers because whoever hits first will almost certainly win. With 5 Mc you can afford both, allowing your ship to survive laser bombardment long enough for kinetic weapons to secure a mutual kill. Additionally, none of your ships even approach the 1 kt mass limit. Final note: Nice looking ships, quite a rare sight in this world of grey cones. Are those spikes cosmetic radiators?

On the contrary, they have plenty of kinetic and laser armor, and it hasn't even been min-maxed. (Switching titanium nitride with tin/cadmium/lead, applying an anti-flash layer, adding multiple bumpers and a spall liner) I recommend this post which explains some of the principles behind (hypervelocity) kinetic armor (especially the paper at the bottom), and why you don't need centimeters of boron of VCr steel. Even when it isn't angled it can take hits, and the graphite aerogel (which I think has been fixed?) is plenty in terms of anti-laser armor. Overall though the armor is only 10% of the total cost (minus the paint job). Not impervious, but enough to survive. There's also a heavy use of redundancy. All of this increases effectiveness and makes for a more economical design (Instead of single mega-modules and monolithic armour). With 2 Mc you can have weapons or armor, not both.3 million extra credits just means more sophisticated armour, counter measures, and longer range higher energy weapon systems and more extreme missiles. The same principles that apply for 2 Mc ships also apply for 5 Mc ships and above. The main thing that changes is the missile meta when you put restrictions on the numbers. More credits for less missiles either means every ship has missiles, or bulky missiles that are much easier to counter even if they're much more destructive. And missiles are pretty overkill to begin with. Unless the opposing build specifically counters them. This is going to massively shift the balance of power to first strike weapons such as lasers because whoever hits first will almost certainly win.It already works that way. Unless you build a counter against that very specific weapon system. This is what I meant with perfect counters, because otherwise it will just boil down to who strikes first and/or has the longest range. If you're up against kinetics, counter kinetics. If you're up against lasers, counter lasers, etc. Hybrid armament and armor is possible, but being a master of none likely means you're just certain to lose or that your ship will be destroyed regardless. With 5 Mc you can afford both, allowing your ship to survive laser bombardment long enough for kinetic weapons to secure a mutual kill.The above ships already sort of do that. They have sufficient laser armour, and sufficient kinetic armour. The principles behind this do not change with extra credits, but performance does. Additionally, none of your ships even approach the 1 kt mass limit.No need. Besides, more mass means more propellant, less acceleration and less credits to spend on modules and armour. (In the other thread I suggested a 500 t limit, but credits are mostly the limiter here) EDIT: And yeah, those are cosmetic radiators.

Even when it isn't angled it can take hits, and the graphite aerogel (which I think has been fixed?) is plenty in terms of anti-laser armor. Just a bit of data for you here. 2 Mc allows me to field 10 of my Barbecue laser drones, which have 1 Mm range. So no, 3 Mc more doesn't increase the range or power of possible lasers, just number. 20 cm of graphite aerogel is cut through by them in... *drumroll* ... 8 seconds. Doesn't look like plenty to me. Edit: Enderminion - Completely flat, did it on a tester ship. Sloping would increase kill time, of course.
