I have been away for a while. 100 km/s railguns back? Daaang.

So...I hate to ask, but does anyone have a quick and dirty guide to modding the limit.txt on nuclear cores? I've been trying to avoid going down the mod rabbit hole but this is just too fun looking to pass up. 1. Backup C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Children of a Dead Earth\Resources\Data\Limits.txt. No really, make a backup. 2. Copy it to C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\CDE\Mods\Data\Limits.txt -- the upper level of your mod directory, not within Materials 3. Change the following block on the copied file and save it. I changed the lower end of CoreMass_kg. Make sure to keep tabs between properties. 4. Restart the game, have fun. NuclearPayloadModule CoreMass_kg 1e-4 1000 Enrichment_Percent .0072 .97 HollowCoreRadius_m 0 5 InnerExplosiveWidth_m .001 1 FusionFuelDensity_kg__m3 0 10000
Note that all your designs which use modded properties will break if you move the limits back to a place where they are out of range. Thank you.

So this rifle caliber nuke is actually possible? Fuck. Now I want to lower the limit.txt and shove these mini nuke into my cannons and EM guns because holy shit what 1 ton of TNT in less than 15 gram package. So...I hate to ask, but does anyone have a quick and dirty guide to modding the limit.txt on nuclear cores? I've been trying to avoid going down the mod rabbit hole but this is just too fun looking to pass up.

So this rifle caliber nuke is actually possible? Damn, beat me to it. Is Ca-252 availabe? If only I didn't have work today... How's that puppy handle btw?

I can't wait to see how this pans out. I regret going dark for a while, I have a design that I think might do well.
No offense apophys, but I wanna see that laser star get smashed (if only because I suck at Las design)

I went ahead and bought a 3d printer last week, so naturally I had to try printing my Blender model of the stock Gunship. The one on the left was printed all at once, the one on the right was printed in pieces and then superglued together. My printer isn't well optimised so there's a lot of stringing and banding and whatnot, but it was still pretty cool being able to hold a CoaDE ship in my hand. If anyone wants to try it for themselves, here is the .stl file I used. I want a set of these. Bad. Really, really badly... Along with a fleet of my own ships...

yes from light-years, but how many? also they may have drives that violate the laws of physics and thermodynamics as we know them and might not produce heat visible from light-years That could be true, but I wouldn't say that we should base our assumptions on this. The galaxy could rest on the back of a quartet of cosmic elephants, but that doesn't mean we should search for the turtle they stand on.

Good poem. Now, if you could translate it into simple English. all the aliens are communicating is ways we can't listen to, FTL or STL we can't hear their life I've read theoris that an advanced civilization may not use radio at all on a planetary scale. We already use fiber optic for mass communication. In a few decades radio for "mundane" uses may be obsolete. It may be possible that an advanced civilization may use something like tight-beam lasers for interplanetary/interstellar communications. But that's all moot. An interplanetary civilization would need powerful interplanetary drives, and as we've established those would be detectable from lightyear away.

I've been wanting forward-mounted torpedo tubes for a looking time.
Low-velocity internal guns firing high acceleration missiles seems to be just the ticket...

this is totally random but Gadolinium-157 has a wicked color (as a tracer) That color being?

So with the new update most of my engines and other components got off scratch free, however my lasers certainly did not. The issue seems to be (realistically enough) with the internal arc lamp chamber pressure, presumably from dumping a small nuclear power plants worth of energy through it. Now the main issue is how to fix this, all of my designs use the optimised: Chamber wall fused quartz Chamber outer wall Silver This is the ideal as (previously) the fused quartz was strong but also transparent, and the silver was the most reflective substance so it was ideal for the mirroring on the arc lamp cavity. The in game provided solutions are somewhat limited. I cannot increase the chamber as it is already at maximum, i cant change the chamber wall composition because no material really beats fused quartz, i cant even really say i can turn the power down, as this issue is plaguing every laser i use from my 6 mw all the way up to my 1 gw. Also as these are still all arc lamp pumped arrays they are not really that efficient. So basically that is the main crux of my problem, i had some big toys but non of these were omega-watt laser star level, just personalised Xenon-Titanium sapphire builds. So im wondering if i should finally start learning modded materials that might fix this? or is there something i am overlooking? :EDIT: also i have attempted to turn the power down and the error persists until the power has decreased until it is only 1/50 then additionally it does not fix the arc lamp simply gets too small for the cavity. I've found that swapping the fused quartz for diamond serves as a quick fix until a better solution can be found. It drops the efficiency and the output power, but it allows the module itself to operate for now.

Welp, I couldn't get to ship design, probably due to the update, so I've erased all my designs and progress, and am starting from scratch again. same, for me it was lasers, THEY ALL BROKE, ALL OF THEM I swapped all my arc lamp envelopes for diamond for a quick fix. I'm sure they can be reoptimized. It also seems that counter-battery lasers are out. Las turrets seem MUCH more resilient now. I figured something was fishy about them, but now I'm a bit disappointed haha.
