So, as we all know, patch 1.1.1 just came out yesterday and some of you might have been scratching your head wondering how to use these new options.
So, I'm just gonna speak what I know and maybe some of you can fill it in.
First, the electric actuators, they are basically electric motor that used magnet to turn the turret instead of momentum ball.
They have several key advantages over momentum ball.
1. Low power cost.
2. Not depended on turret size for turn rate.
The second part very important and it allows me to make some of my turreted gun even smaller.
So, when do you actually use it?
Well, the first obvious choice would be to use it with conventional cannon, as they already have low power requirement and they are dirt cheap enough for the cost of expensive magnet required to fill in.
Railgun and coilgun can also use them but it's more, situational.
As railgun tends to have THICK barrel even on their smallest, electric actuators aren't always the best option for them.
Where coilgun which can have thinner barrel even when firing heavy projectile, electric actuator can help reducing the turret size, thus reducing their overall weight and reducing their chance of getting shot by annoying laser.
However, it seems that the bigger your guns are, the less effective electric actuator will be.
Yes, electric actuator could saved lots of power which could be used for something else. But after a certain point, it just won't be mass efficient and make your turret heavier instead.
Which bring you two choice of turret options if you go for big guns.
You want a light, but high power requirement turret, or a low power but heavy turret for your multi tons big guns?
Your choice.
Next, composite barrel armor.
Which was what most of us probably asked for a long time and it's so damn worth it.
Composite barrel is basically barrel consisted of two or more kinds of material in order to handle a higher pressure and stress from firing a projectile.
Now, the current system only allows a two kinds of material used in the same barrel, but it's still pretty damn good.
But, how do you use it?
I won't be talking about composite barrel for conventional barrel because it's...broken.
It works, just that it's bugged graphically and the game doesn't register the thickness of the barrel on turret size.
Anyway, railgun and coilgun both need barrel armor for similar but still slightly different reasons.
Railgun requires more stiffness and strength to keep the firing accurately as it generally has enough mass to not be overheated.
Coilgun instead has the opposite, they are rather inefficient on firing high speed projectile and thus overheat easily.
For railgun, you can probably use amorphous carbon, boron or just something tough and light to give the gun more accuracy at lighter weigh.t
For coilgun, high heat absorbing material like diamond, graphite works pretty well.
Finally, there's internal mount gun.
Which I won't really be talking about because I spent the last 4 hours of tweaking all of my guns to the new optimization level and did really spend any of those time on playing with internal gun mount.
So, anyway, anything else you guys want to point out?
