Okay...I tried out on trying to make sub-capital drone stuff and... Here's the thing, while the drone would be highly maneuverable with all the armor, weapons and engine while being practically 50% cheaper than the original ship design. The carrier itself needs to be REALLY large just to fit the drone. And the price barely tipped over the scale even after reducing some stuff like armor. Yeah, it's big and very vulnerable. VERY vulnerable. But the sub-capital drone though. They look so adorable! And that ridiculous thrust that can be used because the drone is unmanned makes it so damn maneuverable. And yes, the drone is carrying smaller drones. DRONE-CEPTION!!! Not an exact size comparison but you do wonder how the hell do they fit in the launcher pod... I love this game for so much shit I could do with it. But anyway, yeah. The control pod weight needs to be increased. Does the number of crew needs to be increased too? I think possibly...yes. The carrier total has 71 crews. Compared to my original ship design with the sub-capital drone is based on, each need like 41 people or so, so that 246 crew member job being handled by only 71 crews. Though this wasn't really related to armor thread anyway but I would like to do something about the current discussion.

Ah...so that's why there's no pure fusion bomb.
I actually thought that boosted fission bomb is a type of fusion bomb in the game!

Okay, I'm going to test out sub-capital drone ship when I get back home afterward.
Then maybe I can see someway of fixing this.

Man, everyone is trying to build mega-laser while I'm struggling to make a 300 kilowatt and 1 megawatt laser light enough to be put on drones cheaply.....

Anyone actually built drone sub-capital ship before though?
I didn't see any example in the Post Your Designs Thread.
And yeah, calling them sub-capital seems more appropriate because they are not...real capital ship.

Honestly I think there has been some sort of oversight where cap drones are concerned. QSwitched made a lot of really good points about using unmanned capital ships which definitely need thinking upon. Because as it stands the remote control is really silly. Just 1kg of processors and single receivers are capable of controlling an entire capital ship. It really doesn't make any sense at all. At minimum there should be a limit to the complexity of a ship that a remote can control. So for example if you make a huge tanker you would only need a tiny remote control but if you build a fancy drone with multiple turrets on multiple sides you'll need something more advance. So a basic remote control could handle any of the current stock drones but as you get bigger and bigger you are going to need a lot more control systems to run it all and at the end of the day if you build a giant cap ship that is unmanned you should definitely need the same number of crew to run it as if it were manned. In all honesty you would need more people in order to trouble shoot communications and man all of the remote systems a manned ship wouldn't need. Maybe have a weight ratio like 1 ton of mass need 1kg of processors? And the processor also get bigger and more vulnerable?

The Roombas have rebelled! Maybe giving them self-improving AI was a bad idea after all... Now that you mention it, they do look like space roombas...

The game has been out for barely a month after all.
We are all pioneers of CoaDE here.

Well this is all very exciting! I seem to have caused a revolution in ship armor. This is pretty darn great to see and I'm really glad that my idea of stuffing whipple shields is turning out to be a massive improvement in armor. Yeah, thanks man. Now my ship can be light and cheap while still decently protective to their crews. Anyone tested if what would happen if you thicken the gel layer to...several meters thick? It's dirt cheap enough that it won't matter much in weight or maybe price. Maybe.

Some random picture I made when testing out my UFO drone. They are slightly complicated to design but in the end, they look fancy enough to be worth it. Dozens of Shuriken I coming out of the mothership, ready to rip human ship apart. They can also take some serious level of damage and still function. This drone was impacted by a 10kg coilgun slug and went of to kill the corvette that shot it. An internal image so you can design one for yourself today!

Still, it's not REALLY that good.
It's basically an upgrade over the ordinary whipple shield which has gel instead of empty space in between the layers.
And very accurate fire will bore though the armor in no time, which happen everytime my ship was shot by stock 60mm cannon.
But it's decent enough to be real good.

Okay, I tried out the armor composition and holy hell it was good.
I changed the armor of my carrier, Broken Quiver and two of my small sized gunboat, Broken Sword.
I then launched 20 of my micro drone with lightened 33mm cannon used by the stock Stinger drone, Dagger III against them.
They shot them up.
No problem, I sent a 40 wave next time.
Then they ate the bullet like it's nothing.
I sent out what's left in the stock, 60 of them.
It BARELY managed to take down one of the gunboat, they just ate so much of the bullets, it's ridiculous.
As an emergency, I sent out my own carrier out and I had to tactically move her around because both sides has 47 kmps coilgun that reach out to 300 kilometer range.
It was intense as all hell as I dodged the red metal beam and got some radiator scraped off the hull.
It seems that my drone has managed to take out the engine or fuel tank because the gunboat isn't moving at all. That's one thing to note as my carrier finally shot down the gunboat after 10 seconds of direct fire from 3 coilgun.
I AM going to use this armor from now on, because this is fucking good.

This level is just so bloody difficult, I'm tempted to make a ship with broken coilgun that fire 1g projectile at 5% of light speed just to get it done with.

Maybe switching out the thin whipple shield with something else like titanium or so?

Hmmm, maybe I will try this out later.
I know an armor scheme that's light weight but really expensive.
I know an armor scheme that's cheap but really heavy.
I hope this goes in between instead of having to make more compromise again.
