MPDT/NTR seems to be an amazing combo for most warships. If you create MPDTs to use spare reactor power when not in combat you can triple your d/v even with heavy propellants like decane. Once in combat you can disable the MPDT and use the NTR for combat maneuvers. Using questionable glitching you can put the MPDT inside the NTR for added protection and space saving (use the arrow buttons to move it all the way back, then move it forward once.).
Considering how powerful this is I imagine most experienced users already do this, but if not than I hope this was useful.
(50 kg drones with 30 km/s d/v and 2 g acc. are pretty OP)

It is. Though glitching is not required. If the design is not broadside I put the MPD inside a ring of three or more NTRs. Alternatively you can couple them with resistojets, which is even lighter and cheaper, but limits your thrust to your power input.

MPD/Resistojet is much better if you're not using all your reactor power for banks of lasers/rails/coils.

I recently designed my new generation sub-capital drone to use high powered reactor even if they aren't using laser for the MPD drive.
I meant well, with all those optimization, nuclear reactors are now stupid cheap and the radiators I put on for my small drone makes it looks absolutely fabulous.
EDIT:
That and theorcatically, my long distance drone has more than enough fuel that they can actually be reused by using MPD drive to make them go home the long way.

So there a trick or something to getting thruster type A inside a ring of thruster type B? Because I've been trying for the last half hour and it still has the intersection error. I'd really like my NTRs to down-shift into MPD cruise mode to turn 5 kilometers of dV into 47. Seems like there should be an easier way to do this.

The thruster(s) you want to put inside the ring must be somewhat smaller than the ones in the surrounding ring. A ring of 6 will give you more space in between than a ring of 3.
Try increasing the gimbal angle of your outer thrusters; that should easily make them bigger.

Thanks! It went from 4.12dv in combat to 34.5dV for long burns.

Thanks! It went from 4.12dv in combat to 34.5dV for long burns. MPDs can be made tiny in comparison to Capital Ship torches, so a ring of 3 NTRs can easily hide a single MPD.

It really feels like we have arrived at the sub ether drive.
