Yeah, some of my gun just act like freaking particle beams while some just... as accurate as a shotgun.

I've tried designing an effective railgun based CIWS system, but as long as they won't automatically switch targets it's just futile. Laser based systems aren't a solution either as they can't take down micro missile swarms fast enough. Nor are they cost/mass effective in-game. One 10 ton, 600+ kc laser equals thousands of kinetic missiles + MIRV delivery systems. I still think a realistic projectile based CIWS can be designed (just as in real life), but it will require greater control over the targeting AI similar to the remote control update. Such a system would also need to be effective at extreme ranges to account for massive swarms of missiles closing in at once.

40mm conv cannon with a 100 gram 20mm payload (~66 1.3g frags ). Muzzle v about 1.8 km/s.
200 ms reload.
Poor missiles dont know what hit em.

Does your frag payload actually detonate in front of the missiles? All of my attempts to get that to happen failed. Only way to get it to work was to attach a 1kg remote control.

Yeah, that's the annoying thing about wanting to just fire flak shell or nuclear shell. Maybe a much smaller control module that is only for activating the warhead would be nice.

This has been mostly effective for me: (413MW beam) And its probably slightly more intelligently designed brother: (185MW beam) (Yes, these are abusing the physics inaccuracy, and at some point will require a ship covered with hot radiators to operate reasonably)

This coil-gun has proved quite effective versus stock missiles. Reliably takes out 30 of any stock missiles, and only has trouble with waves of 40 flack missiles. For best effectiveness be sure to target the missile's engine, the gun is laser accurate. It's pretty good versus ships too.

Here is a design I've been toying with tonight. I tried to get a low power and efficient design, optimized for low cross-section targets. It gets a 16km effective range vs my own micro-missiles (129000mm2 cross section, 10.9cm diameter): [/a] Of course, it produces 224 MW of kinetic energy for 5MW of input...

Good thing that when I recreate it I don't intend to fire it at those ludicrously high rates of fire.

I've created a nice series of "Sniper" railguns with extremely high range for the purpose of taking out missiles and drones. imgur.com/a/UYzYqAwesome! Can you post the detailed design screens for them?
