im actualy using nukes as point defense right now both tiny ones and a few large ones to create a screen most missiles are armored against lasers and are generally also sorta resistant to nukes but they still seem to work
has anyone had much successes with interceptor missiles? the biggest obstacle for point defense systems right now is that weapons will all target a single target so while you might only need one shell or missile per incoming missile ALL of your guns will target the same one so your cannons are limited by velocity but missiles have the opportunity to change target mid flight which helps them take out more incoming missiles at range. I hope we get an option to have systems pick different targets soon.

After some experimentation, I have managed to partially overcome the single target problem by tweaking the rate of fire for the launcher. It may be obvious, but your missiles do pick new targets after their current target gets destroyed. The idea is to tweak the rate of fire so that the next salvo has time to adjust their course after the previous salvo has taken out their target. For my counter-missiles with 1.59 seconds turnabout time and 2.67 g of acceleration, 3-5 seconds is enough.
There are two problems though. My main problem is that I can't get my fragmentation warhead actually hit their target. The missiles explode normally and the target seems to be within fragments cone, but there is just no damage for some reason. So right now my counter-missiles are exploiting proximity triggering logic mostly. Second, there is a problem with engagement distance, because it depends on the number of missiles in a volley. You can of course set engagement range to be very large, but then I have certain problems with getting small missiles from burning out when facing other small targets. Increasing the number of launchers does nothing to improve scaling for obvious reasons.
There is another question I have in regards of flare missiles. I couldn't figure out how to make them, so I wonder can the flares on missiles be less powerful than normal flares since they will get much closer to their target (and thus seem as bright)?
