New patch coming soon, yay?
I guess either the tournament hosts lock out updates until after running it, or we push it out a couple weeks.

For those with problems about AI: you guys should write your own AI. It might help.

Can we copy the game directory outside of steam and run it like we can with KSP? If so, the host should keep a copy of the current build and play out the tournament on that. Otherwise, we'd need to postpone it until everyone can resubmit their ships.

The game will close itself if it isn't opened through the steam launcher. In order to get KSP-like no-steam capability, you need a steam emulator (which comes standard with pirated copies of such games). So yes, it's possible, but somewhat unsavory. Best to just prevent updating.

Best to just prevent updating. Is there a simple way to do that? Steam doesn't seem to have a "don't auto-update" setting anymore. AFAIKT the best you can do (without at least mild hackery) is set the game to "update only when I launch", and make sure always to have Steam in "Offline" mode before launching CDE.

Why can't one write an AI for their own spacecraft? This will leave some designs more vulnerable than others, and an unfair game. I'd like to see either as a feature in the main game, or at least a separate game.

Uh, rescripting the AI is a feature of CoaDE, but doing it is disallowed for this tournament.
You can always set steam into offline mode and prerecord the tournament, then livestream the commentary with the recording. You don't even need to show the commentators the results so they're going in blind.

I should give a heads up. The release of the upcoming patch will likely disrupt this tournament. In particular, the introduction of safety margins in the next patch has a good chance of invalidating a good many designs. Just an FYI so the participants aren't left wondering what happened. Good news! randommechanicumguy just has to stick with the current version for the tournament.

Do we get to choose our AI preset? I could have sworn I saw that somewhere, but I can't find it for the life of me. If not, what is the AI preset that will be chosen.

I mean, didn't you test it? If you have 2 ships both set to defensive, battles won't happen. And the rules state that you can't edit the AI scrips, not that you can't select one. Anything not specifically banned by the rules is allowed, that's what tournament rules do; don't constrain yourself with rules and bans that don't exist.

If you have 2 ships both set to defensive, battles won't happen. Actually, if one has 1 Mm range weapons, they happen relatively often on Luna, because the distance between the two orbits is less than 1 Mm.
