I have a missile about 1 minute 30 away from 10 enemy missiles and when I davance time by one turn my main ship which is about the radius of its orbit over herculina away (maybe 3(+-1)Mm from the missiles) is drawn into combat with the enemy missiles even though the interceptor missile is closer and intercepts first. What gives?

Doesn't sound correct, but if the distance was 1Mm and the main ship has lasers then the intercept is instanced out as that fleet vs the missiles and the interceptor is ignored.
The ideal situation would be to instance all fleets in an ellipse with the two initiating fleets as the focus and the minor axis set to some suitable value that includes any potential intercepting vessels that should arrive within weapon range during the nominal intercept window of the fleet action.
This has advantages when looking at for example mutually supporting, but dispersed orbital platforms, or a fleet/screen/interceptor/striker interaction.

Enderminion There is some weird intercept exploit on how COADE handles switching to combat mode. Someone here tried to tell me how to take advantage of it, but I wasn't interested, now I wished I would have paid attention just to know how it works. Apparently two of your fleets can be in the same orbit often very close to one another, but each one will be intercepted separately, and often times in illogical ways. I don't know if calling it a bug is appropriate, but there is a problem there.

The Interceptor was moving at greater then 3km/s towards the enemy missiles, they were no longer in orbit of the astroid they were flying a lest time course towards the enemy

Immaterial. Once a single pair of fleets has weapons free, all other closest approaches are disregarded until after this first instance is fully resolved.
The suggestion being made is to increase the number of fleets instanced into the combat area to the first pair, plus any others that will be likely to have an influence during the time expected for the combat, so that missiles and ships are present at different locations at the start of the instanced battle against the enemy fleet in this case.
