Crashing During Combat (False Flag)

Hi there, I just purchased the game earlier today and I've been suffering from a game breaking bug - whenever I try to pause of unpause the game during the combat section of the False Flag mission I get a CTD. It only occurs when I'm within range of the Patrol Ship's railguns, although sometimes I can get past the first pause (where the tutorial advises to turn broadside), but will always crash when trying to unpause following the advice about lasers. I also attempted combat in a sandbox mission and suffered from a crash there too. I really don't want to have to refund the game as it seems really interesting, so any help would be amazing.

Edit: Oh, and I've tried full-screen on and off, tried disabling the cursor, and tried lowering all graphics settings.
