Right now crew requirements for every engine is about the same, but I think the crew requirements should take complexity into account. Parameters like pump size, presence of nuclear materials, amount of regenerative cooling pipes should affect the crew count.
For MPDs they could be much less, since they are small and have few moving parts. They are also so light and small that I think maintinence for MPDs would be like lightbulbs, run them until they break down, then screw a new one on, since the ship can easily carry lots of spare MPDs.

...I'm having this very amusing image in my head right now.
But yeah, it should be super easy to just have a box of MPD stocked somewhere in the ship in case of emergency.

I think the current MPD model is a placeholder so I wouldn't get too cozy with them as they are...
But a box of MPD's with Edison Type-1 screw bases on them is hilarious to envision XD
