I can't tell exactly when it happens because it happens so quickly. I set up two fleets armed with 1GW violet lasers and armored with 1cm of boron. Upon entering laser range the fleets engaged each other normally. After a few seconds of one fleet being disarmed and the other fleet's lasers raking away at the other's hull there was an immediate crash.
This happened repeatedly.

I had this happen too a few times. Always happens when powerful lasers blow through hull armour.

Changing my methane tank material from RCC to Van chrome stopped the crashing, so perhaps its related to the tank detonating? Van chrome tank detonates with complete destruction of the drone I was using it in, so I'm only assuming the RCC tank was trying to do the same.
