No this is not and OHAS thread. Has anyone else had issues with your missiles detonating just off the hull of your own ship? The launchers worked great until my ship got shot up a lot, the irony here is that all the on coming fire did was heat the hull, it was my own missiles detonating a couple meters out of the launcher that did all the damage...
Were my missiles seeing my own heat bloom as a target? If so were are the safeties (minimum time/distance before arming)?
Won't someone think of the children!

Were you launching decoys at the time? Missiles seem to like targetting friendly decoys.

Are you using launchers of your own design?
They allowing missiles to clear the launcher before launching the next? Mind, this will usually only cause damage to the launcher and missiles due to catastrophic structural damage to missile propellant tanks causing sudden uncontrolled omnidirectional thrust following collisions. If your missiles are going nuclear just out of the launcher, they're finding themselves in range of a viable target just out of the launcher, and you need to wait until your decoys dissipate before launching missiles (and for the love of god, if you're in combat, make sure you've either emptied your missile bins or secured your launchers before you let the enemy get close enough for your launcher to start automatically pump out missiles).

No flares and no collisions due to fire rate (rof 1.5 sec, ample time to clear). I really think its due the the fuse. I thought it might be due to enemy fire but it was still happening after they ran out of ammo.

I have seen my own missiles chase friendlies that are heated by a laser, which may have revealed a minor flaw in the underlying IR seeking mechanism. One would think that they would have a rudimentary IFF system.

sudden uncontrolled omnidirectional thrust I love this phrase.

Ok, so some experimenting has resulted in no change. I do know now that it has nothing to do with taking enemy fire, nor flares (friendly or enemy).
There was mention in another thread that if the missile are too close together it can cause problems so that is what I'm going to try next.
Its just really odd that you can successfully throw a hundred missiles and then all of a sudden they start launching and experiencing sudden uncontrolled omnidirectional thrust (SUOT?) after they have cleared the hull.

Were you launching decoys at the time? Missiles seem to like targetting friendly decoys. Tip of the day: Missile won't target friendly decoys if the decoy have a remote control. Tip of the week: If you gonna had a remote control to decoy, why not adding a engine and a fuel tank to it? Decoy missile are the ultimate nuclear missile defense.
