I figured with the addition of the new level editor and the ability to make planets, it would be a good idea to make a thread to post maps to use. To add a texture map in, go to the Resources file, click Textures and then drop in the texture you want. Specify a name you will remember. The ratio needs to be 2/1 but any size image will do. From there you can open the Level Editor in the game and create a new level. Choose Create new body and under Custom Resource Name type the name of the file you added in. None of these are mine, they were pulled from google images. (credit for finding the Earth texture goes to The Astronomer)

Here are a couple more. Please note, the textures file only accepts jpegs. A png will not work. Feel free to post any textures you find (please help me!!). (The MS paint one is my own abomination creation, apologies for any eye damage it has caused.) _

I recall I saw somewhere a cool looking dead earth texture, not a Venus like shitty shining ball. Can't remember where it was. + found it, praise the Google

If you don't like a planet's shininess, make sure you have a [name]_specular texture. Make it some dark gray color. The darker, the less reflective the planet will be.

I think Earth is supposed to be reflective due to the large amounts of silica/iron/etc. that were tossed in the atmosphere by the asteroid bombardment (I THINK that might be why it has 100 KPA of pressure in the info box. I really find it hard to believe any amount of dust would increase it by that much.)

CDE Earth is said to have turned into a slightly cooler version of Venus, AKA a huge change in atmospheric compositions and temperature.

Huh... and here I was all this time thinking that Earth pressure was one PA. Turns out all the custom planets I made are worse then Venus.

Here's another one I made, I think this one turned out better than the previous one. I'm still trying to make them more realistic and would appreciate feedback. I'm thinking more clouds and more varied terrain as a start.

Planet textures need to be stretched horizontally toward the top and bottom so they don't distort and pinch at the poles. Unfortunately this is one of those things that's difficult to find 'how to' information on. But anyone serious about making planet textures may be interested in Grand Designer. Don't worry too much about the price; it does go on sale at times.

Usually the effects of horizontal stretching is limited by the ice poles of the planet (just a uniform white, not much to stretch). planets without ice poles will suffer the most from stretching, take mercury for example.
