The latest patch of the game seems to have completely broken it, I deleted every game file from my computer and started from scratch, even the fresh download crashed.
Crash happens on startup about halfway through the loading screen, I have no clue what could be causing it.

Can you please locate the crash logs? They can be found here:
Windows: .../Users/[Username]/AppData/Roaming/CDE/Crashes/
Mac: .../[Username]/Library/Application Support/CDE/Crashes/
Also, are you using any Steam Workshop items?
And one more note, deleting the game files may cause Steam to redownload them from Steam cloud. To test if the game files are actually the issue, delete the file contents, but leave the blank file there. Game files are here:
Windows: .../Users/[Username]/AppData/Roaming/CDE/
Mac: .../[Username]/Library/Application Support/CDE/
