This reminds me of this project I was working on to try and make man-portable weaponry; never quite got around to finishing up the project and writing up the thread, but if memory serves me right I did end up creating a railgun that was at least equivalent to a modern firearm, and was light enough to be reasonably carried and fired, as well as a nuclear reactor strong enough to power it, whilst still being small and light enough to be carried in a backpack by an average soldier.
Kind of tempted to go back and make a thread about that now; even if I don't have much of anything to show for it, you guys are far better at making these things anyways.

[snipped pic] This is a 10 km/s flak railgun, with 2 MW of power attached (radiators not included) for a fire rate of 930 RPM. The railgun can take up to 8 MW of power (3700 RPM) before encountering overheating issues. 4500 ammo rounds included. 412 mc cost for firing 1 second's worth of ammo. Needless to say, with an energy of 57.8 kJ for each shot, a human could not take the recoil of firing it (or the radiation of the reactors...) Code: (uses my standard flak rounds and standard 1.01 MW reactor) Seriously, though, put an engine and a centimeter of nitrile rubber on that and I bet it'll kill MPD-only lasers like nobody's business.

So I've thought about it for a week now, what do you think of weapon categories and remove some of the score categories?

Well, I couldn't actually fit ammo into my design, but I still made a Fat Man that otherwise abides by the rules. Individual nuke yield is 151t. It's actually a tweaked warhead from one of omnipotentvoid's missiles, mostly just because I really suck at designing good nukes.

Here's my totally reasonable and legitimate submission. Please make sure to like this post Add a bit more propellant and you'll have essentially approximated a .45ACP handgun in space. ...Damn fudds....

Sorry about the double-post, but here's a more viable design for the competition. Costs 17.5kc, holds 7000rds of ammo onboard, and weighs 1.4t. The chief benefit is that you can pretty much power it with an RTG and still get a pretty respectable effective range.

Both submissions are nice to have, though as you say the first one does not fully abide by the rules. I am however currently in a fight with bureaucracy which means that while I still intend to score submissions and such it will have to wait until the situation I'm in is atleast more resolved than it is now.
