Flak doesn't really need a RC, though for some reason on some payloads, they won't fuse themselves correctly, like if you want the shot to burst before contact with the target. Bursting before contact with the target is, like, the entire point of flak. Without proximity fuzes, you have to use a huge ratio of explosive to shrapnel to get it to expand appreciably as it passes through the target.

Flak without remote control still detonates before their target, but at a very minimal distance.

With 115 hours in CoaDE I figure it's time to share a couple designs. I've been designing my ships for a hypothetical "Uranian Defense Force" because Uranus is by far my favorite planet. This is my latest and so far favorite, the Benvolio-class Light Cruiser: Here are my laser cruiser, the Othello-A, and my laserstar, the Fortinbras: And here's my main missile ship, the Macbeth Class, backing 15000 micromissiles. The armor scheme is kind of a mess, but since my computer basically dies each time I try to use it, I haven't bothered to figure out something better. Finally, my weirdest creation by far, a ship using a CO2 NTR. The delta-v sucks, but it has loads of thrust* and a teeny-tiny cross section. I figure given plentiful dry ice on the Uranian moons, it makes some sense, especially for maneuvers near Uranus itself. *Guaranteed to liquefy even the strongest of crews

xenophon13 I would like to see the "Liberty guns" on the first ship and your PDC and missiles if possible. also if you have trouble with micro-missile swarms you may want to look into heavy missiles and drones, while less effective then micromissiles the heavy missiles allow you to get away with far fewer missiles (20 of 20 of my Advanced Missile MK1 made it through 9 600MW lasers)

xenophon13, that is a very nice fleet. You make me want to post mine. I like how you designed them around being a planetary defense force. I think having ships that are designed not just for min-maxing but with a of consideration real world application and constraints makes them somewhat more realistic.
One thing though is that they are all specialized for one weapons system, sort of a rock/paper/scissors arrangement. I could see that being a potential weakness if we could do PvP.
How does liquid polymer armor work out? Never tried it.

xenophon13 this is a pretty nice fleet . I'm also interested in the liberty gun , 100tons 150tons for a non-payload launching 41km/s gun is impressive and it seems you used something interesting on the barrel to get it.

Enderminion Yeah, I am planning on revisiting large missiles again. Micromissiles are great in principle, but if the game won't run, it's kind of pointless. Durandal Thanks! Yeah, you bring up a good point. I do like to keep my ship roles fairly separated, just because it makes keeping track of designs easier (and means fewer module dependencies if I want to edit/delete a module). That said, I have a nice 15MW laser to add to my gunships, and might put some gun drones on my laserstar. I like keeping my missile ships lightweight and only armed with missiles, however. Their tactics are basically spam missiles and run, and if they are engaged directly they've already failed. And as far as I can tell, LCP fiber is just a cheaper, less-effective version of Aramid fiber. I'm mainly using it as an anti-spall liner, except on the Macbeth where it's basically decorative. concretedonkey Thank you! Yeah, I tried reinforced carbon-carbon on a whim, but I'm pleased with the results. As requested, here are the Liberty Gun and the PDC The Liberty Gun was designed for the Liberty Assault Cutter challenge, and weirdly enough it is my only coilgun design not to be completely broken by the patch. It's rate of fire is horrible, but I'm pretty pleased with its accuracy and exit velocity. The PDC is less useful as a CIWS gun than a fast-firing railgun would be, but it's light, dirt cheap, and reminds me of the PDCs on the Expanse. I tend to add these to use up leftover crew slots.

I like how the ships' delta-v is high so it can cope up with the planet's strong gravity well.

New ship of mine, the Lance. It's a fairly effective ship with 3 Heavy railguns for long range anti-ship, 6 medium range CWIS and 1 20 MW Counterlaser/Stock Drone Bullier.

Man, I'm so focused on making drones for the past few months, making capital ships feel kinda odd now.

Finally get my micro capital ship cost under 1MC (Still carrying 10k missiles , but lighter and MORE POWERFUL version now~) link

Just shoot it down with my 100 km/s railgun I doubt if you can shoot down 1000 missiles within ~1 minute~
