Of course, if you're using mods, I'd say that you'll find it hard to go wrong with Icosane, mostly because it gets better exhaust velocity then RP-1 while still being denser.

a decent ship i make recently, expensive but pretty tough against stock ship.

Does anyone know why this is the case? My best guess is that icosane is really good at absorbing energy from the reactor, meaning that it's more effective as a coolant, which results in reactors being able to put more energy into each gram of propellant without melting, which in turn allows for higher exhaust velocities. It's sort of an inversion of why silane sucks as a NTR propellant, because it can't absorb as much heat from the reaction before it leaves the reactor. Silane is only somewhat denser than methane, yet can't achieve even half of what Methane can in terms of exhaust velocity in an NTR.

But what is the exit velocity of it in NTR's and resistojets ?
The reason why I switched to generally methane instead of decane is that tho decane is more dense, its general exit v in NTRs is 5.5km/s ish, and methane's exit v in NTRs is generally 6.6km/s

For clarity I meant ethane, what is its general exit velocity in NTRs and resistojets

5.77km/s NTR and 6.91km/s RSJ
Probably could be better because my minmax game is subpar.

Does anyone know why this is the case? Enthalpy of formation is about 100 lower than RP-1, so basically what ash said, but that I think is the specific stat that causes this. It looks absurd, but every site I've looked at has listed it as -556, -538, or even -664, though the last of these might be for the gaseous state. The -556 value is the most common, and the one I used for it.

So does that mean my minmax game is par? no, it means everyone sells themselves short

I made a 1.77Mt Nuke, 80 Kilotons of yield on the standards thread 1.69Mt nuke for just 10 more kilograms then I made a bullet so it could survive 1.77Mt Nuclear strikes A cannon to Shoot the shells and a ship to take them into battle T'was hard to make a ship to survive 5 1.7 megaton nuclear hits every second, the radiators are sheltered by the ship and the crew is on the CoM (had issues with spinning) but it can survive long enough to take out a gunships armour and extra radiators, the tanks and crew modules are armoured because I think their is shrapnel flying inside the ship after 20-30 bombs (things gone with no armour damage)
