If the front of a ship is flat and the armor is adjusted to only cover the flat front portion (via the "Start" slider) the armor mass and cost is not calculated correctly. The armor also happens to become no longer visible once it is made sufficiently thick but it will still block damage when the ship is used. Below is an example, if calculated correctly the mass of 10 meters of nitrile rubber should be well over a kiloton, Edit: This is a duplicate of childrenofadeadearth.boards.net/thread/1556/partial-armor-ignores-wonky-mass(Rather odd that we both posted on the same thing at similar time... you need at least some side armor Ya, it's not complete. I just stumbled on this bug. It may be worth noting though that the invisible armor is wider than the missile is long, so unless the target has enough speed to dodge (i.e. is not only using MPD for propulsion) a laser will never get an appropriate angle to shoot past the armor.
