This is an issue that it seems like members of the community know about (I remember someone on the discord server bringing it up); and poking around the tech support thread I don't see anyone that's reported it yet. It seems to happen most with armor on nosecones, 'flat-tops' and on sloping parts of ships, and generally tends to occur when less than 10% of a ship is armored. It also works on ships with pointed noses if you set the start of the armor to 99% and the end to about 90%. Here we see NP-237, one of the heaviest and most expensive armors available, 20cm thick on a spacecraft. Yet its mass is seemingly irrelivant and its cost (while present) is much less than that of a layer of comparatively mundane RCC. Have some more screenshots; screenshots are fun. Okay it's costing something here but its cost is still minuscule compared to a mundane RP-1 tank. In this case, if I reduced 'start' to 74% the armor's weight and cost would suddenly be factored in.
