Thank you all. I've been thinking about organising it better but I still haven't though about how to approach this. The best way probably would have been to start form a clean user file but its way too late for that . I'll try to assemble what we have to this point a bit later today. The 60mm restock is just an extended turret version of the original. It just made a lot of sense. I'm pretty sure its been used in atleast two designs so far. My guess is that its just been forgotten when Qswitched updated most of the stuff for the patch. Btw what are your thoughs on the use of stock stuff that we know that its broken ? Like the hafnia capacitors ?

the stock 4mm railgun is fair aganist missiles, especially if their are more then one or two Yes and there were times when it helped , however most of the time it was 20 missiles and it really can't help against that.

Ok guys this is my version of the gunskiff. At first I had great problems with this ship and its still very close to consider it unfinished - the first tests were against 3 gunskiffs and boy I had a lot of those. Thing is that with the weapons on both sides those turned out to be very fast and extremely violent. It was common for both sides to be dead at the end of combat. Its the 60mm conventional cannons not the 4mm railguns that do the most damage , at least on enemy's side. I'm sure you are aware what they do to any armor they come across : This time the crew survived but it was close. Because of this I ended up significantly ramping up the armor. Switched the silicon nitride to carbon-carbon. Added 2cm silicon carbide on the front half of the ship. Its not 100% protection but nothing is , especially against streams of 10g slugs that arrive every 19ms. At high angles the slooping of the armor helps a lot and if the angle is right it can survive quite a lot of punishment ... but god help you if you turn. Also I dislike how utterly helpless this ship is against missiles , but the stock is the same so I just avoided much testing against missiles. Can't do anything against them really. Didn't help that I pushed everything possible to the back to help taking punishment from the front. At the end its probably what the raider should have been. I'll test them to see which one will end up on top. Anyway here are recordings of some of the tests: The first fight is against 3 gunskiffs, second one is 2 corvettes and a missile schooner and the third one is 2 gunskiffs a Corsair and a Patrol ship. Very pleased with the results of my testing. Ive been using the first model you posted btw. Little heavy, and the aramid fiber seems to pop like balloon to strong enough lasers (I may switch my copy to graphene and tweak a bit) but it's now my main KE weapon paired with Xenophon's 9mm. Very effective out to 1Mm and laser accurate. I was able to completley disable a stock Gunship without killing it at about 250km. I'm almost a little disappointed though. A part if me was hoping these kinds of guns died with 1.1. mm interesting I suppose I'll have to test how it handles doom laser fire. I haven't tested them for a while might have to switch to AM-carbon or rubber ... I don't use moded materials for the moment. If you take the last model and ramp up the barrel back at 100cm you should have the same performance with at the very least 70 tons less weight. The one shown was with 80 cm to allow me a much faster turning turret with minimal decrease of accuracy.

Damn, these are nice :-) Do you have a 40km/s gun for under 150t ? A clean one, no, and as you can see I'm getting obsessed about accuracy so my current guns are very heavy.

I did a slightly less accurate weapon, even if with 80/90 tons less weight its still gets the job done. I had a version before that with more bracing - this is why the name of the module has the wrong tonnage ... I forgot to change it. Here is how it works in practice : P.S. about the strange dance with the orbits - I wanted to avoid the missiles - wound't fit in 15 minutes otherwise.

Sorry guys , it took me a while to post this even if the ship itself has been finished for a while now. Thing is that I dislike the low delta V it has but frankly with the arsenal I wanted to plant on it it was inevitable. This or make it a lot bigger which would have been out of the scope of the redesign. You have already seen the redesigned devastators but here are they and the other weapons on it from inside: Devastators You can see how I'm saving armor coverage with the smaller engines. Otherwise nothing really interesting. The hydrogen peroxide version of the flak missle: With the switch to HP instead of LOX I've gained a boost in both the delta V and at the same time the missile is smaller. Its still my favourite missile from the flock. Very deadly and relatively cheap. The HP/RP1 striker: I still dislike the missile. The impact of the warhead has been dissapointing and the missile itself is expensive for what it does and big in my opinion... maybe I'll try to find a more capable warhead but I fear everything is either going to be too big or too small. The new and much improved flare missile: This one lives for 10 seconds which makes it significantly more capable than the old version. I'm still going to try this with my normal ships but I fear the increased power and temperature is going to make it impractical. You can notice that I've been lazy and it just uses 2 sets of the tanks from the flak missile. I can definetly make it more compact if I do special tanks for it. The ship carries 40 of the devastators , 4x100 Strikers , 3x500 Flaks and 500 flare missiles. This shows me that I can cringe my teeth and make a ship with less than 5 km/s delta v I can dislike it but I can take less than 6km/s delta V for the missiles but god help me if I make a large missile ship with less than a 1000 missiles on board . Combat wise it wasn't really suprising that the AI didn't stand a chance. It was winning easily against missile salvos with the new flare missiles and even 10 laser frigates were no match for the devastators as you saw in my previous post. Here are some shots : I have to say that even if I dislike large missiles , the firepower that those 1MT warheads are offering is tempting and I'll try something similar with my normal missiles as well. sorry I usually copy the gun do tests and then tweak again and so on untill I get something worth posting. So the compare will show just minor changes from the last iteration not the major step from the last version. The new one is around 2.5Mc. Keep in mind that I changed it a bit from what I had when the shot was posted so its not exactly the same. The new one is 10MWs across the board (reloading , rails and wheels) with a small hit in the fire rate. vegemeister , I'll test with hafnium carbide and see what happens. Also I'll test if reducing the bracing untill it doesn't reduce the accuracy against minial crosssection of the graph will reduce the practical accuracy in the tests. Yesterday's tests were all done with maximum bracing to test if it actually does anything if its not registered on UI and for the moment I think it does. You can get away with 25-50 cm of bracing in most cases. Humm probably for slow speeds yes. I found that the 10km/s version was doing just fine with 50cm. However At 15km/s there was a dramatic increase in accuracy between 50 and 75 and a small one from 75 to 100.

What's the cost on your new version compared to the original? Sorry to say it but your optimization ruins the accuracy. Additional barrel bracing is what i makes you ultra accurate ... I've gone a bit different way with the optimization - less speed... Ahh, I missed the point. The Bracing is adding extra stiffness beyond what is shown in the designer. This is probably a bug then, either with the designer or barrel bracing. I sure hope its a bug in the designer not in the accuracy

Osmium is one of the least flexible materials in existence due to its density. I highly doubt that this accuracy is due to a bug. Also, I optimized your Osmium barreled railgun. Sorry to say it but your optimization ruins the accuracy. Additional barrel bracing is what i makes you ultra accurate ... I've gone a bit different way with the optimization - less speed... : Edit: The new gun has even tighter grouping, I guess because of the shorter barrel. You can clearly see that below the particles the impacts are a thin line... at 1000 km.

No problem. this is firing at a redesigned gunship at around 700kms you can see that even the ricochets are in one stream....

5.45 million. It is expensive and very heavy, I'll probably look for some kind of ballance between the beryllium copper and the osmium one. Probably vanadium steel? I'm not sure its that conductive but I'll try. It sure looks like two separate materials for the barrel bracing and the barrel itself will bring a lot of interesting options to the table.

A few weeks ago uberdude9001 asked for accuracy info in the guns designer and during the conversation I did a few tests but wasn't very satisfied - maybe it was the post needle-gun depression, I don't know anyway I decided to do some additional tests somewhere in the future when I'm bored by the redesign thread and here we are... First lets start from the railgun I used in the tests in the uberdude's thread: As you can see my desperate quest for more speed led me to a stupidly long gun with a barrel material that I understood was broken around the time of the conversation. At 1000 kilometers grouping is wide across the target. Target is a 100 meter wide osmium slab btw. I returned to the tests with a small rework of one of my main guns 50 t turret firing 1g slug at 20km/s .I shortened the barrel, widened the armor bracing to the maximum and twiddled with the numbers untill I got to a similar performance to its longer more conventional cousin. Gun and grouping at 1000km looks like this: As you can see we already have a tendency - shorter and more armored, barrel gives us much better results (less flexible I guess). Next I decided to go to more dense materials and turned to an old friend - beryllium copper. Again shortened the barrel. Gun and results at 1000km look like this: Slightly better but is it worth almost twice the weight of the turret? I don't know... lets escalate... osmium barrel. This is were it gets interesting... 182 tons of turret for just 1.9 meters of barrel length. Almost no dispersal. I mean look at it. From time to time a rogue particle was making it a bit less... laser-like but generally it was unnatural. Needless to say it will significantly affect my gun designs. I sure hope its not another bug or exploit, I hope its just the super massive incredibly short and inflexible barrel, but sure the results look too good to be true.
