One of my fav tactics:
Deploy a large amount of missiles, make them join up with the ship that launched them so that when it enters combat it has a large swarm of missiles on front of it.
Then during combat I order them into homing so that the enemy Will have to focus his weapons (since they all focus on one target at a time, which is quite dumb) on the missiles speeding toward him, or my ship, firing furiously at him). It works best with large swarms that cant be ignored or brushed away in seconds.
Am I the only one who does this ?

I just build massive laser boats and vaporize enemies from 4000 km.

I do like the missile swarm idea.
Would be great if we could have point defense drones hold station keeping several km out in front of the ship.

I do like the missile swarm idea. Would be great if we could have point defense drones hold station keeping several km out in front of the ship. Its beauty is In that the enemy has to deal with either the missile swarm, or the parent ship. Thats why I dont usually make the missile ship defenseless (without its missiles), the parent ship is a deadly threat in its own right. Take for example my most recent ship, the IpA Heavy Laser Frigate I posted. By itself, with its lasers and coilguns its a deadly threat, and it also has 400 small missiles with 6kt warheads. They cant be ignored. Before the battle, I dump out about 120 missiles and make they rejoin the ship. (Since apparently 2 fleets can be in the exact same location, but I nly one will be engaged in the tactical view if their not officially rejoined). When the battle begins I send these toward the enemy on homing. If it engages the ship it is ignoring 120 missiles with a 6kt warhead, a deadly threat. If it goes after the missiles, it is allowing the weapons of the Laser Frigate to fire unimpeded, which is also a bad idea. This allows a smaller ship to take down a larger ship, or at least achieve MAD. This tactic might be mitigated if the game ever allows our weapons attack mulitiple targets and not all be concentrated on one thing. But even then it might still be useful

You don't need to 'rejoin' the missiles, simply switch off the "separate this fleet" option when launching.

I can't imagine it would be super hard to implement if modding is required, though I wouldn't know how

Welp, dumbfired projectiles and every single one of my coilgun-fired missiles just became 100% useless.

I can't imagine it would be super hard to implement if modding is required, though I wouldn't know how They seem to be pretty effective already to me... If their targeting got better, I think it would be challenging for missiles to make it through without throwing hundreds of them at the same time.
