Damn have things changed since last time I posted here. Other people making corps and talking about meta; that was the stuff that only I used to talk about!
In any case, what else has changed since early December? Like how have patches affected things? (if at all) What tactics are dominating the meta? And anything else you can think of.
Thanks a ton!

If you're not aware of patch 1.0.8, - Lasers have accuracy from sensor diffraction (targets really far away look blurry on camera)
- Lasers have received the ability to wield a second stage of frequency doubling, making them more powerful and possibly blue.
- Lasers no longer require turrets
- Kinetics are more accurate now
- Drop tanks
In other news, modding has started to take place. Mostly little things like adding new materials or combustion reactions, notably we attempted Lithium Fluorine Hydrogen tripropellant reactions. tessfield has made great progress with the standard's thread. qswitched promised modding for factions soontm. someone got a working Orion Drive.
Meta still has NEFPs as the primary weapon and NTR + MPD set ups are still a thing.
Other than those not much if I remember. The picture is from Project M

Speaking of companies, people like -newageofpower- set up their own companies (Altarris Heavy Industries, in case of -newageofpower-). I decided to put my mod idea that developed into full fledged project as people arrive and stuffs.

I haven't played much since early December either. I've seen and downloaded the most recent update though.
Has qswitched made any comments on non-gimballed turrets for future updates? That's my main interest at the moment, as I'm holding off on any new ship building until then.

Awesome, thanks for all of the responses! One thing I'm a little confused on is David saying that NEFPs were still the meta, but I remember NEFPs having reliability issues, and that Lasers were the actual meta at the time. So have the changes to lasers nerfed them enough, or did people find a strong counter to lasers, or am I just remembering completely wrong? In any case, I may start building up my corp again, but one of the main purposes of that was just to get others to start doing it anyways, so maybe it worked after all? idk Also, it's great to hear that mods are taking off! I'm a huge fan of modding (My profile pic is actually the logo of the greatest mod of all time), and having mods start appearing in this game is great. It also makes it yet another thing to happen in modding over the last month or two. (there have been so many great things happening in the world of modding, including The binding of Isaac Antibirth (plus extended mod support in Afterbirth+), Risk of Rain Special Delivery, and the announcements of an expansion for the Enderal mod, and most excitingly the professionally made and officially supported XCOM LONG WAR 2 MOD! WHOOOO!) So has modding so far been mostly small individual edits? Because I definitely prefer larger more coherent mods, largely because of balance reasons. Also are there any mods that pretty much everyone is using? I haven't played much since early December either. I've seen and downloaded the most recent update though. Has qswitched made any comments on non-gimballed turrets for future updates? That's my main interest at the moment, as I'm holding off on any new ship building until then. Wait aren't there non gimballed turrets in the game already? What do you mean? The thing that I personally want more than anything else is capacitors, but there are definitely some other things that I would like too, like Particle Beam Cannons, Fusion Reactors, and some other things I can't remember atm. Well I'll see you all more on the forums!

Maybe you left before I came here? As long as I've been here people have been saying NEFPs were this glorious weapon of going through 50m of boron. Though as I outlined in the little brief summary in 1.0.8 Lasers have been made more powerful with a second frequency doubler, yet more inaccurate with sensor diffusion. Basically they're more intense but the dot on the target jiggles around at longer ranges.

Well NEFPs were always hypothetically the strongest weapons, but due to issues with the ai and the engine, they weren't always consistent, and were made moot by the fact that lasers could disable anything up to or even over 1Mm away (I actually designed a railgun with absurd range just to allow lasers to target from farther away). This was compounded by the fact that at the same time the strongest anti-laser materials, the aerogels, were both nerfed heavily. I could be misremembering some things from the forums, but I know that my own testing heavily favored lasers over anything else.

I know it isn't the indefinite times that aerogels had, but drones can survive long enough to get a shot off and missiles might be able to impact.

(I actually designed a railgun with absurd range just to allow lasers to target from farther away) I unlocked black box tech just for that. The best black box is both easier to build, lighter and more effective than any gun. I haven't experimented much with NEFP myself, but apparently using flak fragments as projectile make them reliable. For anti-laser, armaid fiber is the best per mass, while nitrile rubber is the best per cost.

Do you mean actual flak warheads or some other part that has been designed to create flak when destroyed 3.) Yeah, that seems more fair, especially now that lasers are less accurate. Before, aerogel was just the best vs lasers by every metric pretty much.

1) A special module type: you just set your outputs, as I understand it. (I don't really understand it.)
2) Actual flak warheads.

I found out about and unlocked the black box whilst searching for the calculations behind the various weapons in the game's database. Also, for the flak warheads should I put any extra explosives in there or just the flak itself?
