I'm kind of learning some things while designing my first ship. I like it overall but it uses 6 8mm rail guns (mainly missiles for armament) and I have a few questions:
1. I see a lot of threads discussing Coil guns and their designs; are Coil guns better overall? I know you can design the payload to be launched by a coil gun so is that it?
2. I've adjusted the bore radius and mass of shot to get good accuracy. Seems though that when I go up against a ship with 8mm rail guns, they alway open up before mine and if I ignore range, they are more accurate. My pattern seems right but it's "spraying" behind, above or below the ship constantly. Is there a way to address this? Does it have to do with "homing" or another facing option? (Rail guns are bow mounted forward facing)

qswitched has acknowledged that shot distribution will be reworked. See here: childrenofadeadearth.boards.net/thread/520/bullet-patternsWhen you're checking accuracy, note where the 1m 2 target range peaks. That is a good rule of thumb for getting tighter shot groupings. Adjusting around that while trying to optimize for long range is a decent way to go about things.

^ Exactly what he said. All other things being equal, the more accurately you can hit a 1m square, the closer your shots will be vs a 1000m target.

Ok. Got it.
I think my shot had too little mass. I was so worried about shot velocity I wasn't really paying attention to range v accuracy
