someusername6Better than what I expected. Btw, I found a way to make my missile survive one of your laser. For a very reasonable cost on top of it, the decoy only cost 116c. Its mostly a exploit so I won't brag about it yet...

When playing against the Valkyries with the laser as AI, I seem to have luck just aiming at the cannons, and then they blow up before anything happens. But maybe the AI is not setting the intercepts fast enough.

Sadly, Valkyries can only be used by player. Sub platform like drone mounted missiles are not handled well by AI. And AI won't fire "out of range" and that's lame. If you want to test them, you will have to switch seat and play David against Goliath.

The Ship have to be something the AI can handle, you could still do that for the "agressive" AI category. The downside is that computer will launch them all at start and will be a easy pray after that.

That is exactly my kind of ship, you got my vote for the "Laser Fleet" setup. Although a small nitpick, Laser intensity above 200MW/M^2 doesn't seem to do any extra damage, maybe make the aperture radius smaller for some major weight and cost savings. For your laser I think 2m radius aperture is good enough.
Edit: Your file is posted in the wrong order I think, you have the ship first and modules after, so when it gets loaded everything is blank.
Edit2: You can improve your laser output by 15% by using Fused Quartz outer coupler, and cool it sufficiently by making your pump bigger and spin faster/

Limiting the laser intensity feels a bit game-y -- the ships should be able to engage at a longer range / more than 1000 km at that intensity, then. I will do the updates you suggest tonight, though.

I will do the updates you suggest tonight, though. Yeah I think the credit limit is too high, at that scale we hit game limitation pretty hard. Range limit, no multiple entry point to combat, CPU limit... All these thing bottle neck the option to the point we can't use anything but laser... If I had to do this again I will set the limit down to 100mc again. Your ship will still be pretty much game breaking but at least we would have other option to defeat that kind of tactic. I am still glad that we did this, it clearly show that laser are valid at larger scale.

I did something like that: This: launches two of those: which are based on the Laser Show, but with only frontal lasers and using Neon instead of Xenon due to the price. Not tested under AI control yet, but they beat both my Neon-modified Laser Show MkII and a broadside Laser Show MkIII easily. The drones have six remote controls for redundancy. The crewed ship is expendable. Also note that if you have wholly insufficient radiators for your lasers, they still take some time to overheat. Not played with it, but this may be worth thinking about for a giant alpha-strike with no endurance.

Downside is, anything that doesn't die to your alpha strike, you're now stuck paying for lasers you're only going to get to use if you're loosing badly.
