Howdy folks,
Optimizing for cost is generally my favorite self-imposed challenge when designing ships and weapons. Currently the only way I've consistently been able to make efficient and destructive weapons is any variation of micro-missile, or my current best, a 3.4 ton, 16k credit, 10 km/s 8g acceleration missile that deploys 60 fragmentation missiles and 60 nuclear missiles 100 km out.
I'm trying to achieve some kind of comparable efficiency with projectile weapons, but I'm just not getting anywhere with the ridiculous price of the expensive coilgun projectiles.
Does anyone have a capable capital or sub-capital sized coilgun design that uses iron as a projectile?

If by capital sized coilgun, you meant shooting projectile that weigh more than 1 gram, then yes. Attachment DeletedAttachment DeletedI used to try high projectile weight coilgun when it was quite...broken to say the least. Now coilgun just feels too expensive to use when compared to user designed missile and laser. Using iron is the only way to keep coilgun cheap but it makes them way heavier as the coilgun itself needs more coil to accelerate.
