Whenever I use drones to attack, most of the time each drone is only used once. After intercepting once, they fly off, never to be used again.
I tried to make full use of my drones by putting 3 kiloton/9 megaton nuclear payloads on them and setting them on homing. They would fire at the enemy ship s with turreted cannons and then ram them.
I'm not sure if it is effective in the long run, though. Any thoughts?

If you only plan on using the drones once, then why not. Makes sense to me My personal drone doctrine is to limit tactical maneuvering; relying instead on the drone's small size to survive and just fly by the target shooting at it. In the unlikely event the target survives then I maneuver the drones to make another intercept on the next orbital pass (for a fraction of the dV cost of trying to halt their momentum, turn around, and go for another pass). If the target does not survive the attack I vector the drones to intercept the next target in line. (for clarification, I never use the 'broadside' command and I always use turreted weapon systems on the drones. It just seems to work out better for me in the long run)

I have 4x2.5 KT nukes in mine, I also adjust the ammo they carry so in a full length run they deplete the guns and then kamikaze the targets hull
