Just for grins I tried making a railgun with the fastest muzzle velocity. This is the brute force approach but 14.5 km/s isn't too bad. I could remove the gimbal but I actually mounted this on a craft and it was as stupid and impractical as you would expect. I originally envisioned it as a keel gun, but it ended up more as a proboscis. Attachment DeletedTo make it fun let's see who can fire the most kinetic energy in one second. KE = 1/2mv^2 (Units are joules, kg, and m/s) Showing my work because math was never my strong suit so I'm presumably messing this up somehow. KE = 1/2 * .150kg * 14,500m/s^2 KE = 1/2 * .150kg * 210250000m/s KE = .075kg * 210,250,000m/s KE = 15,768,750 J I'm not sure if the rate of fire is the sum of the reload time and the cooldown time or just the higher value. I'll assume higher value. Because this is shots fired in one second we'll round down. ROF = 1s/.118s ROF = 8 15,768,750J * 8 = 126,150,000 J/s There are probably better materials out there to use and I have a feature request brewing about this once I make a mock up of a UI. I haven't even begun to figure out the coilgun so there could be an easy win there.

Awesome! I was keen on seeing how people would min-max module design. I suspect lots of very interesting designs can be made that aren't in the default designs.
That'd a beast of a weapon if it could be fielded. At 2.80 kilotons and 75 meters long it's basically a medium sized capital ship in itself. It's similar to the stupid and impractical 1 GW laser I built, that's mounted on a space station.
Also, rate of fire is the higher value. It's kept separate because when the weapon is first being fired (i.e. cold), the cooldown time is lower. Though the actual fire time is lower than the reload time (that value is actually fire time plus reload time), so the final energy would be somewhat lower. Doubt it would be by much though.

Looking at your 1GW laser was how I realized I could scroll down in the radiator list. >.>
