Has anyone tried to get gold on the Homecoming mission?, I have and I'm pretty sure it's impossible, I mean less than 14 Km/s and 1 year and 3 months..., and what's worse is that the game gives you ships with mg's of acceleration, just to insult you saying "well, some smarter people than you finished the mission with these ships", so, my question is, has anyone got even close to geting gold on that mission, I swear that is the mission that will keep me from getting the all gold achievement (besides from the first one, but I suspect I need to spend more time and do all the steps on that one).

I did manage to use 11.4km/s and get there in EXACTLY 1yr 3 months, but the game decided those were not the 1yr 3 months which could be eligible for gold. BUT you must know that some missions are either impossible or EXTREMELY hard to get gold on the first pass. To get gold on those you need to go through them a couple of times, getting gold on different objectives every time. For example the "interramnian incident" mission. To meet the time objective you can just spam missiles at your tgt. BUT you will damage it way beyond the percentage, stated in the other objective. And to get that one you gotta have another go at the mission, but this time switch off ALL of your weapons except the laser(s) and target radiators to disable the weapons and then go for the engines. Hope this helps.

Two things; no one had ever finished it with the belt trawler (it's a trap), and the other is you don't have to accomplish both goals in the same playthrough of the mission. Take the Methane tanker, it's got plenty of dV and enough thrust to use it within the time-frame of the mission.
(Now that I've said that, some super-human alien cross-breed that's all cerebellum sitting on top of a withered, useless body will not only prove both those statements wrong but will then go on to prove quantum-mechanically that I'm a dummy pooh-pooh head)
(Maybe I shouldn't make forum posts first thing in the morning before my first cup of coffee)

See no 11.Not with the travler. Not both records in the same mission. Not both records with the same design (deltaV was beat with a stock methane tanker). I boggle at these guys. (Dropping mission time was the hardest for me - so many CTD.) But yeah, Gold is possible, keep at it. (For the first mission, the secret to get gold is to ignore the tutorial completely and just do the mission.)

no one had ever finished it with the belt trawler (it's a trap) I finished the mission with a modified belt trawler (10x the thrust but still < 0.1mg) but still using the ion drive. I had about 2 months left in the budget. However, doing it with the stock trawler would be very difficult.

Basically I removed reaction mass tanks until the engine could use all the mass in less than a year. I think it was 50-100ug0 for acceleration, and >50% of the trip was spent thrusting. The Mars orbit insertion was sloppy, but it still only took a 3-4 orbits over less than a week to meet the station. Marty

...and another one I'm gonna have to google. I swear, the best/worst part of these kinds of games is how much I have to learn to play them XD
