Hello there.
I have unlocked module design a couple of days ago and I cannot understand how armoring works. At all. Whatever armor I put on my turrers, they get destroyed immediately by stock guns as if they were not armored at all.
While trying to figure it out, I've made some tests with different types of armor, but I have found that even if I armor my turrets with 1 meter of osmium everywhere they still get destroyed after just a couple of hits from the stock 13mw autofire railgun. It seems especially weird considering that the same autofire railgun cannot damage my hull armor which is much thinner - 5cm of titan.
As it is, it seems to be more reasonable to simply put tons of the cheapest turrets on my ship then to create a few advanced turrets. If any turret dies fron a couple of hits, 100 turrets take more hits then 10 osmium-plated paper bunkers.
Please educate me on the issue. Is it possible to make a turret which will survive the first 2 seconds of battle? How to do it?
Another problem which I've met is that I also cannot create a gun which would pierce enemy armor better then the stock modules. Stock 60mm gun can peirce armor with its 10g rounds, but my coilgun with 1kg projectile flying at 10 km/s simple ricochets, and so does a conventional gun with 1 ton projectile going at 2 km/s. How comes?

How comes? This may help Armor thickness, mass and cost.ods but first question, what type of turrets are you using? Are they Lasers by any chances?

Thank you, I hope it helps. No, these were railguns and conventional gun turrets. Both were duying immediately. Though the conventional ones were dying a bit faster, it seems to be caused by their a bit bigger size.
By now I've found a solution which made them live a bit longer - I made custom external fuel tanks of different diameters, with no fuel but heavily armored, and put them in front of my turrets so that only the barrel is above this shield. They can take a couple of hits, which prolongs the life of my turrets.
