Obviously the stock ships are quite shit, but RELATIVE to each other, which would you say is the most effective for its cost and mass ?
Which would you say has the best armor sceme ?
Which is the worst for its cost and mass ?

A long time back, someone tested the stock ships against one another. The victor was the Gunship, with the second place going to Fleet Carrier if I remember correctly. Since then, updates have changed the ships, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Gunship is still in the top three, if not the best of the bunch.

Well, obviously the gunship is the most powerful, but is it the most effective for its cost ? 1v1, a gunship will always beat a gunskiff, or say, corsair. But would a gunship beat 150MCs (cost of gunship) worth of gunskiffs, or corsairs ?

But would a gunship beat 150MCs (cost of gunship) worth of gunskiffs, or corsairs. Even for it's cost and mass, the Gunship was the best AFAIK. This is probably still more or less true. While it suffers from low acceleration, it's RCC armor and a general overinflation of cost, this is true of all stock craft. It's a versatile spacecraft: it can launch flak missiles as standoff weapon, it has a laser with redundant turrets (good against snipping turrets and missiles), high velocity (by stock standards) railguns for point defense and general damage dealing and the sniper coilgun to blast through armor. While it is easily surpassed by player-made designs, it's still among the best, if not the best stock spacecraft. But if you really want to find out, you can just test stock spacecraft against each other in sandbox.

I found the stock (laser) cutter by far the most useful support vessel when restricted to stock ships, but YMMV.

Especially against carriers; they're reasonably effective at sniping weapons off the stock drones, which is mostly what I use them for. Probably missile interception fiddling to drain their delta V would be more efficient but I can't be bothered with the tedium.
