I just realised that if you stick a very cheap very short flare on a payload it detonates after the flare expires... Now if the payload is a flak bomb with very tiny charge the fragments keep a relatively stable cloud.
Sandcasters here we come!

How close does it need to be? Seems like a flare destroys the ship using it once it goes out. I haven't tested whether other explosions occur when this happens.
Sandcasters are terrible ideas for both offensive and defensive weapons, though.

Yeah , haven't been able to make a practical use of it yet.. after a while the cloud dissipates anyway... it did work , but with a broken coilgun and even then the accuracy was atrocious it was just pumping enough ammo with 15km/s. For the delay I tried 1 second with a slow conventional cannon that turned out generated way too little velocity to be of any use and 6 milliseconds with the coilgun. I haven't tried to use it with anything else than frag bombs.
I may find another use of it yet , don't know... .
