What about using only the stock ships? What is the cheapest win there? Pair of Missile Schooners. It's the most costeffective among them and has enough delta-v to keep the enemy fleet from engaging or even to run to and hide behind Vesta so the AI crashes some of their stuff into it.

I want to post my entry for the low cost vesta overkill challenge at: 292kc, total mass is 70.3t It can clear the mission at gold and complete the mission within 10 minutes gameplay with drones to spare. it uses a thermoeletric generator to keep crew requirements down to 22 crew. I've uploaded it to the steam workshop here: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1222650077video of the run is available below and on the workshop page.

Here is my submission, coming in at 70.4 tons and 244 kc. I have cut its cost down to an absolute minimum, and the only possible savings beyond this point would be reducing the number of carried drones. Mass can be further reduced by 1 ton, but at the cost of 10 kc.

if you want, you can use my micro drones in that launcher. each drone is only 40 credits but only have 1.7 km/sec DV and an extremely low power gun. if you had a few swarms of 20 of these, you could probably take out a ship or so.

Regarding you drones, the weak lasers on the cutter may be enough to kill them before they reach effective range.

Regarding you drones, the weak lasers on the cutter may be enough to kill them before they reach effective range. selenium is veryyyyy cheap. and the exit temperature can be higher The output temperature can be 38 degrees higher with selenium, which is irrelevant considering that the polonium-210 RTGs they cool only output at 370K. Increasing the output temperature to the melting points of either lithium or selenium reduces the power output by 80%. Selenium's increased density means that at the minimum radiator thickness its lower cost per kilo is offset by the minimum mass. If the drone's weapons only fire at 100 m/s I doubt they can hit a maneuvering target even if they approach at 1.8 km/s.

The only real improvement I made other than minor material changes was using an electric launcher rather than a blast launcher. I don't have any recording software, so no video from me. Ill upload the design to the workshop at some point, so you can try it out for yourself.
