It's a question that's difficult for the game to answer and one that needs answering for my story. Would the ships stay in their positions but still be in a tadpole or horseshoe orbit? Would it be like All-Range mode from Star Fox 64? Help me out a bit here...

I have some questions! What are those ships like and what are they doing there? Is the fighting between two Trojans or between two outside powers over a target in the Trojans? Is it like in this game where nuclear powered death star laser telescopes are the simplest and most effective weapon of war, or like in real life where interplanetary ASATs (probably) will be, or neither?

It's the ship's I've drawn and posted here. The fighting is over a single asteroid colony between three forces.

Well, you can't really orbit the Trojan asteroids as their gravity is too weak. What you'll do is either match their heliocentric orbit or latch onto as asteroid and melt it for resources until the fighting starts. You can even prepare the terrain, like in modern tank combat, by digging up rough shields to hide behind.

If it's about capture, it really goes back to the discussions about boarding... one operational conventional gun or launcher on an asteroid could ruin your whole day, so it would be really tempting to just slag the whole thing with lasers and call it good.. Failing that I'd guess you send over some ambitious junior officers with a nuclear deadman's device to accept their surrender?
Actually being able to use an asteroid as cover would probably favor carriers/missile ships? Interesting question.

and allow the enemy to bounce lasers off you're mirriors, not as well, but still... Lightlag can be your friend or your enemy, depending on how you use it. Furthermore, if they have units on the same side of the asteroid as you are, they'll intercept many of your drones and missiles. If they don't see your drones or missiles coming until it's too late, they also won't see your mirror drones until it's too late.

their is no excues not to be watch the horizon and popping recon drones over the side, they might last a second or two but thats long enough to send pictures back. everybody would know more or less where everybody else is at all times, and thats discounting recon macrosats on long out of plane solar orbits looking into the combat theater
