I don't know about others on this board, but I love 4x games. Explore, expand, exploit, extinguish. The more complex and the more micromanagement, the better. In fact, my favorite game and the one that I play most of all is one Aurora - and it happens to be also a one-man project. It's very time consuming and has been called on another board "Dwarf Fortress in space" due to its complexity. It doesn't even have a GUI, it's essentially space conquest by spreadsheet. The backend is a database, and all gameplay is done through a rudimentary spreadsheet-like interface by which you manipulate the database. The results are displayed in the same manner. And yet it has a very complex and enticing gameplay which can lead to great cliffhangers and enormous space battles.
This has got me thinking. What are the long term plans for CoaDE? Is there any plan to expand the game in a more complex form than the current state, which is comprised by disparate (though progressive through a timeline) missions? I think that a grand campaign in which you start small, have a certain finite amount of resources at your disposal and not much info about your enemies, use what you have to explore and find who and where your opponents are, do some small-scale fighting for resources and territory which allows you to expand your capabilities, etc. etc. - would be a great incentive for players. All in a continuous and progressive timeline without interruptions between missions, and the result of each local small encounter affecting the whole progress of the campaign.
What are your opinions?
