Escaping Saturn with a hybrid mercury MPD/RP-1 ship is fun. It's a pity you can't dump the 3 kilotons of mercury overboard before doing Vesta Overkill. Flying it in combat is nail-biting because you need to change direction and toggle thrusters constantly to conserve fuel and not instantly turn to Swiss cheese. The range and acceleration are high enough that speedtanking works. Retrograde flybys where you never get very close are great. The missiles are mostly there to distract and destroy lasers. Lasers will prioritize the missile spam and stop trying to burn through your paper-thin hull before it's too late. I was really hoping 25 grams at 42 km/s would one-shot ships. It doesn't, but combined with the PDCs it works well enough. Fully compliant with all treaties on nuclear nonproliferation and autonomous weapons systems. And considering you'll likely only use it during transfer burns, that reduces your cross section too. At that point you can also exchange the mercury for much cheaper neon. Why not go for 1 gram instead? You can either increase the velocity and effective range, or significantly reduce the cross section of your gun and the length of your ship. Or even put additional guns on your ship. In general smaller ships tend to behave more effectively. Not only are you more maneuverable but the ratio between (wet) acceleration and the length of your ship is much larger. Pulling 5g on a 50m ship makes you very nimble against kinetics. This is definitely the most fun I've had with the campaign. Having to carefully manage fuel, maneuvers and targets while being outgunned and outnumbered. Below are some highlights: This nearly ruined Vesta Overkill for me. The result of last-minute striker. Luckily I was saved by 8 cm of nitrile rubber at the top. Remember: You don't have to armour your entire ship. I think a lot of people don't realize you can do this. After all, the mission never specifies that the ship/crew should survive. Seeing the 'surface' of Neptune approach rapidly is interesting though. Battles over Venus & Triton.

Your edited design got some issue about radiator tukuro. EDIT: Alright the ship still work well even with the issue, and I am stuck at Vesta overkill since I am overwhelmed by STOCK missiles...

Vesta Overkill is definitely the most nail-biting mission of them all. It took me more than a few tries, and even then I couldn't manage to pull it off unscathed. (As the above pictures show) This was my general strategy for beating it: - Don't burn for the enemy ship. Let them approach instead. Now that I think of it: Once you've had the encounter with the main fleet burn away to reduce closing velocity, giving you more time to intercept the missiles.
- Make ample use of the orient and custom burn orders. Especially during the missile encounters. Make sure you have 3 guns on the missiles at all times.
- Toggle your engines to save fuel. Turn off multiple engines if you have to minimize fuel use. The ship is relatively small but pulls several Gs. Considering the velocity of the enemy weapons in relation to your approach velocity, you only have to toggle the engines briefly if you're still far away (200 km) to dodge enemy fire. The closer you get, the more fuel you end up expending.
- Dump the Neon right away as you won't need it. (For the other missions make sure you deactivate the MPD in combat if you do need it later, because it will leach power and decrease the fire and turn rate of your rail-guns.)
- Turn off distributed targeting and manually target the engines when you encounter the main fleet. Take them down one by one. Starting with the Corvette, then the Carrier, then the Siloship and finally the Cutter.
- Strikers can be tanked somewhat if you let them explode 'above' the ship. The top has 8 cm of nitrile rubber thermal armour. This saved me near the end.
