Not everybody seems to notice, but the beginning of the 21st century is also the trans-Neptunian object hunting age. Hundreds of objects were found, but none of them were larger than Pluto, unarguably the most well-known of them.
In this thread, you can find your favorite TNOs and add them to your game.
Implemented:
- Trans-Neptunian objects -
[/] Makemake's moon, S/2015 (136472) 1 'Makemake's moon, nicknamed MK2, is as dark as charcoal. This, combined with its orbit, which appears to be aligned edge-on to Earth-based observatories, makes it hard to find. It is no surprise that this moon is discovered in 12015, ten years after Makemake itself.'
Bug...
[/] The Haumea family 'Haumea doesn't live alone. It has two moons, and is known to have seven similar objects in similar orbits that were put into the same family.'
The Haumea family
[/] Quaoar 'The largest named TNO as of 12016. It has one asteroid moon, named Weywot.'
Orcus and Weywot. The tanker is orbiting Weywot.
[X] Sedna 'Sedna is a red-colored TNO famous for its orbit. It is impossible to measure Sedna's mass due to the lack of satellites. A probe flyby would be required.'
[/] Orcus 'Also known as 'anti-Pluto', Orcus belongs to the plutino subgroup, or objects which is locked in 2:3 with Neptune. It has one moon, Vanth. The size of Vanth is exceptionally large.'
The hydrogen liner in circular orbit around Orcus. Vanth is seen in the background.
[/] Salacia 'Salacia is an unremarkable asteroid with one moon, Actaea.'
Salacia and Actaea trying their new invisibility cloak AKA BUGGED!
[|] Varda
[|] Varuna
[X] Ixion 'It has no known moon, so it is not possible to find its mass.'
[X] Chaos 'It has no known moon, so it is not possible to find its mass.'
[X] Huya 'It has one known moon, but the orbital period of the moon is not yet measured.'
[/] Sila–Nunam 'It is a binary system composed of two dwarf planets. The secondary object is almost the size of the primary object.'
Sila and Nunam. Nunam is the left one. The scout will then uses the natural gravity perturbation to leave the system.
[/] Altjira 'Another binary system. The companion, S/2007 (148780) 1, is almost the size of Altjira. The inclination of the companion makes navigation within the system a daunting task.'
One of the possible trajectory in Altjira system.
[/] Ceto 'Being both centaur and TNO, this object has very strange orbit. The current orbit brings it further than Eris, then back inward nearer to Sol than Uranus.'
Ceto ~ Phorcys
[/] Borasisi 'Navigation in this system can be difficult due to the presence of another companion of similar mass, Pabu.'
Please don't mind the radiator light on Pabu.
- Centaurs -
[|] Chariklo 'The largest known centaur. It is known to have not one, but two rings. it is a big surprise to the astronomers that an object this small can have dense rings. There could be shepherd moons in place, or the rings are just very young.'
[|] Chiron 'The second largest known centaur. It also have two rings, with nearly identical structures to Chariklo's one. It is noted that both rings are within their respective Roche limit.'
P.S. I need right ascension to be implemented for more accurate rotation models for the objects. Modders modding asteroid spectral types are also welcomed!
