First start with a crappy NTR design. Next add on some tanks and a stock remote control. Finally copy your favorite launcher and switch it to launch the flare missile. Finally, launch it at incoming missiles and laugh as they obliterate the flare missiles instead of your massive laser star. P.S. these missiles exploit several bugs, can you spot them?

Jesus Christ, who fucking needs the laser star?

I have a ship with over a Tw of heat, speaking of, lawson , Twatt flare maybe? Go for it. The engine on the flare missile should scale up just fine. So far the only parameters I've proven to effect signature are expansion ratio, throat diameter, and material. (regenerative cooling does need to stay 0%) Everything else has no significant effect. I don't think the NTR reactor temperature even has an effect. (needs further testing) Note: missiles track the brightest thermal signature. A flare-missile can be effective even if it has less than 1/10 the signature as long as it's close enough to the attacking missiles.

I remeber missiles having an lock-on. Once tactical combat starts they can only be distracted by chemical flares. Has this changed now?
I remeber a while back me and another guy built fission reactor flares that dwarfed the ships's heat signature, but still failed to distract missiles.

would T-watt be better?

More accurate would just be TW flare, as TW stands for terawatt anyways, so you might as well just go for TW. It's also faster to say.

fine, TW flares then

So the thread discussing fusion combustion rockets inspired some more flare-missile insanity. I present the Twat Flare. 1010GW signature, 9 tons, and 30 of them pack in a 10x10x10 meter cube... Only 33Kc!
