Engines can gimbal when they are hot. Same technology for turrets, right?

the engine bell gets hot but the gimbal does not, the gimball bit on the turret is orange hot

The orange patches should cool down in a few seconds according to QSwitched (as the heated part is very thin), but unfortunately he had to deactivate their fading out for performances reasons.

I have trouble believing the turret cools from red-orange hot in zero seconds (leave combat and inspect fleet without advancing time)

I have trouble believing the turret cools from red-orange hot in zero seconds (leave combat and inspect fleet without advancing time) That's just an artifact of the way the game handles the simulation in two distinct phases (map & combat). It is exploitable (fleet formations reform instantly even if the ships have µg MPDTs and the next missile wave is 10 seconds from range) so I imagine Q might fix it, but it may require such drastic changes to the way the game works on a low level that it wouldn't be possible without a complete rework of the game.

Hot turrets still work, but hot engine gimbals immediately stops working. This isn't consistent, probably something that needs to be looked at in the future.

All that needs to be done is that engine armor needs to work properly. Right now, its completely useless since engines die if you sneeze in their general direction.
