Children of a Prosperous Earth sets in an alternate timeline where Earth is not dead, but the fight to become Sol System dominance still take place. The three major factions: NESR (North Eurasian Socialist Republic, a Eurasian superpower), EAM (East Asian Megastate, an East Asian superpower), and SAR (South Asian Republic, a South+South East Asian superpower) are fighting for control of the Solar System, with HR (Haudenosaunee Renaissance, a faction breaking free from LE), NZ (Nihon Zenith, a Japanese power closely related to EAM), CE (Common Exchange, the evolution of American and European nations which trades with everyone, and is extremely capitalistic), and AC (African Conglomerate, a moderately powerful African power with no clear goals) as supporting factions. Many corporations also exist, controlling many key locations the Solar System.
HISTORY (roughly)
Since 2097, the WWIII saw two superpower vying for dominance over Earth: NESR and EAM. Millions of people were evacuated into space by every major factions at the time, and many new factions were founded, both on Earth and in space, during this time, banded together against a common threat. The ceasefire was signed in 2132. During the 22th century, SAR quickly rose with India's fortune and became the third superpower in the Sol System.
Inheriting the United States' former soft power, the Common Exchange was able to establish itself as the Sol system's sole megacorp, with absolute control over all of the factions. However, this did not last long as new, innovative companies which seemingly came out of nowhere introduced new, cheap, vastly superior technologies.
The current war (The First Sol War) started as a war between NESR and EAM, with SAR joining the fray shortly after.

The Astronomer - Starmaker's Propulsion Laboratory
A moderately-sized development team consisting of around 1,200 virtual entities led by a virtual entity called 'Astronomer Starmaker' with its headquarter based on a small habitat/computing node in Solar orbit between Earth and Mars' orbits. It focuses mainly on civilian spacecraft designing, propulsion systems, and recently also opened a new branch, the 'Beam Research Lab', a research facility they built around a beam platform in orbit around Mercury they purchased roughly a decade ago.

Furthermore, we have grown in our purpose: we provide and maintain the open source market for exoterran produced goods through our company's site, all modules and products reviewed by us and peers, with all their data available for comparison to potential buyers. We erased the need for advertisement on this playing field, whether small or gigantic, any individual or corporation has the same exposure through our site.
We understand monopoly is a concern for certain individuals, and we have received complaints stating that SSOS should refrain from expanding beyond being the defacto exoterran standardization organization, but we assure these people that our vision is for the good of humanity; we would like to create "the system" for the exoterran playing field, in order to provide a better environment for the betterment of human kind. Allowing a single or several governments to decide over this is allowing corruption to create the rules for economic wars, and simply leaving this up in the air would have the same if not worse results.
SSOS is a solar, for the people organization, rest assured we are outside any kind of government, and allow the people who actually create or consume exoterran goods to make the decisions that matter. We put the power into the hands of engineers themselves.

Example: say you want a lightly armed scavenger ship in the Jupiter sphere, the costumer will come to Gedzilla Designs, specify purpose, cost, abilities. Gedzilla Designs would then contact companies that produce modules, procure the necessary modules, then incorporate them into the big picture (aka the complete ship) and produce the ship in their Jupiter factories."

1. gedzilla : Ground battles? - Every factions agreed not to touch Earth, as a homeworld of humanity. Somehow, the reason to not fight on the ground continue to persist in this alternate timeline.
2. samchiu2000 : Why space? - The WWIII saw major evacuation of human into space due to the fear of the nuclear war. Even before that, about 10 million is living on Mars, thanks to various projects to move people out of Earth. About 50 million resides on Luna during the beginning of the evacuation.
