Every time I see any description of microfission and microfusion, it's always using the energy from anti-matter or magnetic monopole reactions to get a sub-critical mass (usually small enough to fit on your fingertip, I think) of fissile or even non-fissile heavy elements to spontaneously fission and trigger their core of fusion fuel (usually D-T or pure D). Even though they almost seem interchangeable to me, there is something that sets them apart since every mention of them I've seen has microfission and microfusion listed separately. I can't tell what it is though.

Microfission doesn't use fusion fuel, just fission. Microfusion doesn't use fission fuel, and uses antimatter to trigger the core. What you described is a hybrid of both.
